Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting a few fellow ATers, namely IH A T S U and Braev Dullahan a.k.a. Koobs at a local cafe! Hatsu was my only point of contact prior to our meeting and we were planning this since fall. This was my first time meeting with online friends in person, so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't the least bit nervous. Initially, I planned to take them to an authentic vintage soda shop that was popular in the area, but we eventually settled with brunch at Oui Paris, which was right next door.
I arrived twenty-five minutes early to ensure that my bus wouldn't get delayed due to the ongoing construction a few blocks away. Under new management, this cafe was in operation for only seven weeks. The previous owners apparently had inadequate customer service based on the reviews I read.
I don't know why I ordered a hot caramel macchiato when it was 26°C outside. With this much sunshine, I wore a sheer white chiffon top and sky blue knee-length skirt with something underneath both.
While waiting, I chatted a bit with the barista and she was ever so friendly. Part of the cafe's appeal was their Parisian modern interior, but it wasn't exactly baroque due to the wicker chairs, which I think humanized the space. I personally found them charming. The ceiling, adorned with more than a dozen lit, ornate chandeliers hanging at approximate distances, set an ambiance that was almost romantic.
It didn't take long before Hatsu and Koobs arrived and I was filled with pure excitement. Since I only saw a picture of Hatsu and never of Koobs, it was a nice surprise and not at all as I imagined them to be LOL. I love the fact that we're nearly the same height although if I'm being completely honest, I'm probably still the shortest.
As we continued with brunch, we learnt more about each other, our interests, and plans for summer. Majority of our conversation, however, revolved around the Avatar Talk – the good, the bad, and the ugly. We didn't waste a moment exchanging gossip and reminiscing drama because the reality was that the current AT lacked it. xD Worry not, no unnecessary drama will unfold.
We spent most of the entire two and a half hours talking about the AT community. At one point, an elderly lady with a walker entered the cafe and sat at the table next to ours. She was enjoying her morning tea, but more so our conversation on the behind-the-scene shenanigans of the Old AT vs. New AT contest. That sweet old lady was thoroughly amused by our constant bantering that she broke into a fit of laughter. Additionally, this cafe for some reason kept replaying songs from musicals, as in legit Rent and Mamma Mia soundtracks. lol It was fun.
Our incessant chatter made us thirst for cold water, to which the barista gladly served. I'm positively certain that she also overheard our conversation well within earshot, and we were totally okay with it.
Despite this brief occasion, I had a blast being my own silly self with Hatsu and Koobs. Soon it was time to leave, but not before we exchanged Skype contacts in order to keep in touch. I truly had a pleasant time, and hope there would be more opportunities like these to come!
Writing at the hour I'm most sarcastic,
