As expected, the index is way, way out of date with all the shoveling of s**t I've been doing in my inventory. I waded in last night, and realized this is going to take a bit more time than anticipated.
That's mostly because it's not just updating page numbers of items, it's also adding in all the items that I originally didn't put on the list. I didn't know how thorough I needed to be early on, so I only put on the items that I knew had a lot of motion. My experience since then is that my spreadsheet can't have too many items.
Fortunately, once an item is on the list, it STAYS on the list. It's just taking all these one time costs for getting it on the list that's taking up a lot of time.
I'm also considering that, with a few exceptions, items that I have only one of don't need to be listed. So if I get a second one, I can just grab them both, put them whereever (which is almost always towards the end of my inventory, document it, and move on).
The good news is that on the whole, some of my assumptions/realizations were correct. Especially that once this is done, most of the inventory churn will be at the end of the inventory. That means a lot less page movement for the early parts, which is a lot less updating that will need doing.
I don't know if this all makes sense to anyone else, but it makes sense to me.
