Why go to war?
Well I have been doing a lot of though on the subject due to a bit of History homework that was due a little while ago .Why do people go to war? This is the essay I wrote as my reaction to the question.

Why go to war?
Like in the crusades, fighting for ones beliefs is a very common and important reason to go to war. Beliefs, religious or political or whatever they may be, many people believe in something so strongly that they will risk their lives to defend their ideals. Terrorism is just another form of this, and it’s a good demonstration of how important a person’s opinion or beliefs can be. When a politician or high-powered person has an opinion, they might lead all of the people that follow them into a war. In fact, the crusades were partly fought because of people’s beliefs as Christians that certain land should belong to them.

Which leads me into another reason people go to war: land. Crowded countries might go to war to gain more territories. Some people thing of land as a religious right, many different groups of people have been fighting over Israel for years and years because many different groups of people thought of it as promised to them my G-d. Sometimes it is not the land itself, but the resources the land has that make a person want to go to war over it. If there is a lot oil in the ground of a place, then a person would want to control that land for its oil. Or if there were a lot of gold in a mine, then one would want to own the mine for the money they could make from it. Also, if you control a great expanse of land you are also in control of the people that live on it.

Which brings me to my third point: people will fight for power over other people. Humans love the feeling of control they get from power and the superiority they feel from power. It can be a dangerous thing to have, and too much is not good for anyone, it can also lead to corruption, but if it is a prize for war people forget it. In many ways it is more important than beliefs and land because if you have power you can take land and disregard the beliefs of people you have power over. Power goes hand in hand with money as well, so gaining power is like gaining riches. Power manipulates people to the point where they want to fight.

There you have it, wars are started over that junk, and are fought after brainwashing a bunch of people into thinking their families are in danger. I don't agree with the current wars of the world for one thing...
