Evening in early October Reading under the weeping willow Surrounded with silence Calm with serenity flowing around me Slight winds bring slight rustles to my ears And stir crisp smells of autumn to my nose A single leaf Small, sandy brown, and helpless The wind gently brings it towards me Swaying in the breeze Dancing like a ballerina It falls to me, Grabbing my attention for but a moment Then memories flow back Of a child playing Running from one place to another, But the child is so small It feels like if anything were in that child's path The child would fall As light raises to show the leaf hit the ground I smile Just a small grin A grin for the child So little and frail That plays despite any dangers I am the child A child filled with joy and determination Like the tiny autumn leaf
