I am currently a sophomore in a Michigan University, and as I view my fellow colleagues, I cannot help but feel I am back in high school. There are girls continually flaunting themselves around, just trying to please the guys, especially the male athletes, in any sexually explicit way possible. They place their academics on the back burner and focus on the parties and the drinking, regardless of the possibility that they could lose their scholarship because of it. Some of them cannot get enough of their illegal substances or tobacco, so they will sit outside in their little ‘clique’ circles in between the houses and indulge themselves through cigarettes or the use of a bong. This serves as interference for the academically inclined students, for if the wind is in the right direction, the smoke conveniently finds itself drifting into the room. Now, this is just part of college life, it is the part most students look forward too and the part parents dread.
I cannot help but notice that people have lost respect towards those around them. No offense to those who love to blast the bass on their stereo, but at 11 p.m. on a Monday night in a dorm house, it is far from respectable. I doubt you take into account the people above or below you and how they could have morning classes and are unable to sleep because your bass is vibrating everything! The bothered students can go ask the person to stop; in doing so, you are scoffed at or they comply and turn it down for the night. Yet in an hour or so, the bass steadily makes its way back into the sound waves and vibrates everything into the morning.
I gave this situation a fair amount of thought and it can be associated into grade school. Think about the students who chatter back and fourth during class. It is apparent they really do not care about the subject, so they are going to entertain themselves. However, are they really considering how it may affect those around them…chances are no. The student sitting next to them may ask them to stop, and the two will roll their eyes and continue on, or they will cease their conversation…for about five minutes.
Still as I analyze the situation further, there are no morals apparent, especially in the grade school example. Not only are the loquacious students bothering their peers, the teacher is not receiving the attention they should, and this is not the only situation where morals are lacking. In fact, morals are almost impossible to find anywhere.
The average grade school student does not respect property. This is visible in the books they are given, the lockers they are allowed to use, and just the overall way they treat the physical school establishment. Nor, do they respect any type of authority. Teachers are not given the attention required, principals become a form of amusement, and superintendents become puppets. The 21st century students have manipulated the system by dissolving morals. However, it is not just in the education where this is apparent. Students are not treating themselves ethically either.
I cannot help but notice that some if not most of the girls in middle and high school are really lowering themselves to almost a ‘scum’ level. They dress more mature and carry themselves in a more sexually explicit way, and some of the unintended or intended consequences of this are serious. It is slowly leading to more despoilment of adolescents, which is a slash at both the young women and these older folk.
It is depressing to see this upcoming generation, and even my own generation sliding that low. I find almost sickening to see these potentially successful people degrade themselves in such a disgracing manner. I am well aware people do things for their own reasons, but my question is what happened? Can anyone remember back when it was not socially acceptable to dress like a scarlet woman in public or when authority figures were actually respected in a high manner?
Many like to blame it on Hollywood and on the violet, procreative video games. As much as I hate to reveal this to you, our entire ancestry enjoyed tragic entertainment, especially the gory style, so violence is nothing to us. In addition, morals were still very visible during that time.
I believe people are the cause for the steep declination of morals in society. Granted these violet entertainments and promiscuous shows, video games, magazines, etc. may play a part in the influence of our morals, but people make the choice. Chances are no one is physically forcing anyone to lower him or herself into what some are becoming. Sadly, the question remains unanswered. What is going on…what happened to cause morals to fall so low? And how are these nearly extinct morals in these generations going to affect the future; are morals going to make a slow, steady comeback, or are they just going to whither and vanish into the past? People need to remember how important morals really are, and the lack of morals is highly visible with the steady increase of molestations, unplanned childbirth, drug induced casualties, war, and more. Visualize a world without morals, like what you see?
