Random person: Hi there. Me: Hey. How are you? Random person: Fine. Me: Cool. *pause* So where are you from? Random person: (insert state other than WV here). And you? Me: West Virginia.
At this point I get one of the following responses: 1. "Seriously! Wow! Hey, can you take me to Silent Hill?" 2. "Do you live near Silent Hill?" 3. "Have you ever been to Silent Hill?" 4. "Can I visit you in Silent Hill?" 5. "Where exactly is Silent Hill in West Virginia? I wanna visit it. Bet it's creepy, huh?"
Do you people realize how many times I 've heard those five responses?! Too many to bloody count! So right here, right now, I'm gonna clear up this s**t once and for all. If you correct me, this ******** off bitches. What I'm about to explain to you is the frackin' truth. Understand?
SILENT HILL IS NOT REAL. SILENT HILL IS NOT IN WEST VIRGINIA.
the Real 'Silent Hill' Get the picture? Silent Hill was based off a town in Pennsylvania. Seriously. Centralia is a town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. In 1962, a fire started in the local garbage dump, which was located next to an open coal seam (or gap). The fire was reported and supposed dealt with. Actually, it spread underground in the coal gap.
The Department of Environmental Resourses began to monitor the fire. The drilled holes into the ground to check the temperature and damages that the fire caused. It's said that in drilling the holes, they caused a natural draft to help the fire's combustion. Gas monitors were placed in the homes of people who lived close or above the impact area.
Seven years later, (1969), three families were removed from Centralia. A trench was dug with fly ash and clay seals to try to contain the fire. Unfortunately, the digging was only done for one day. After that was Labor Day and nobody wanted to work on Labor Day. Big mistake.
For the next 11 years, at least twenty-seven families were moved from Centralia. In 1997, the population was counted at 44 people. But no one knows how many still remain today. As far as I know, there's no plan to contain the fire. Millions of dollars have been spent in the past to contain it, but now I don't think anybody's trying anymore.
Now do you understand? And this is real stuff okay. I do my research. Heck I even have pictures!
Please, don't ask if these pictures are real. Because duh, genius. They are. Don't believe these pictures are real? Fine. ******** off. Do a bloody Google search for Centralia Pennsylvania.
*calms down* I'm just really annoyed at people referring Silent Hill to West Virginia. Don't get me wrong. It's a really cool movie. One of the few scary movies I actually like. But it's not in or based on any town in West Virginia.
There I'm done.
