So swimming is over. I'm rather sad. I mean, I'm captain and all, but I'm just depressed that I don't have to be in the pool anymore. There's really nothing I'd rather do with my after school period. Track is alright, but you don't get the muscles swimming gives you. I also can't stop thinking about how next year is my last year to be a swimmer, and then I have to leave my girls forever. crying I'll never get over this.
But I'm not entirely obsessed with swimming. Just mostly. I've heard people say swimming is for wimps, but I don't see it. We don't get time-outs, we don't get substitution, we're not allowed to catch our breath in the middle of a race. We GO. As soon as I see a single non-swimmer beat me in the 500, or even the 50, I will concede this point, but they all hide their inabilities behind insults and excuses. My team will destroy anyone who thinks our sport is lame in a single race.
A race for us is a non-stop sprint from start to finish. During that race, we are using nearly every muscle in our bodies, with a rapid metabolism as a result. We get energy from our food quicker, and our hearts and lungs are stronger, too.
And it isn't just random movements through the water. Out of breath, muscles aching, we have to REMEMBER things, too. How exactly to move our arms, which is the most efficient kick, and what lap we're on. We have to be conscious of every muscle and what it's doing while keeping track of when to stop, and when to go as fast as you can, then faster. Take that, football.
