Walt Disney World: Memories of Old
"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality."

It was 10 years ago that my family and I went to Florida to visit our relatives. I, being a little kid with huge dreams and a love of Disney, was lucky to see Walt Disney World at a young age. We didn't get to visit each park, but the Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios was enough for me to brag about. ^_^ Now that I'm a Senior in High School, it's time for our High School Chorus to take it's final trip to Walt Disney World. Let me take you back to when I was 7 years old, and then I'll tell you what is in store for the Danville Chorus Disney Trip 2009!

~* FAMILY DISNEY VACATION 1998 *~

My family and I, Kiki, had been planning a trip to Florida for a while to visit Aunt Linda and Uncle Neal! We made a little poster with a graph showing how much money we continued to save for the vacation and stuck it up on the fridge. It took a while, but we eventually had enough money saved up. I remember when we had everything packed up in our suit cases and stuffed in the car, my sister and brother (both older than me) and I crammed in the back seat of our Grand AM. Even though I was just a sprout, still growing, I knew that we had a LOOOONNGG ride ahead of us! I don't remember much of the road trip part, but I DO remember that I had a Mulan book with stickers to preoccupy my wee mind.

On the way down we passed through Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and finally Florida. And of course, if you lived far away from Florida, like us, you won't arrive in Florida in a day. We had to stop at some Motels once or twice, and had mishaps like dead cockroaches laying in the corners and weird crappy rooms, but we survived and eventually we arrived in Florida.

In Florida we stayed at Linda and Neal's house, which was really nice and big! Though I don't remember much about the way it looked. It rained our first day in Florida. We visited a beach on the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. My sister found a shark's tooth on one of the beaches, and we collected sea shells and sand. The sand at the Gulf of Mexico was white! And it probably still is (I'm just using past tense on words cuz I'm talking about the past).

Two words were on my mind the whole time: Disney World! Being the little sprout that I was at the time, I only focused on the magic and imagination of Disney World. But I do remember certain things. I remember that my mom and sister and Aunt Linda and I rode the Teacup Ride and I ended up making it spin really fast. I remember riding on the Flying Dumbos. Then there was the Haunted Mansion! While we waited in line for the Haunted Mansion, some family with a little girl came out and she was crying. While we were still waiting in line (in a circular room, at this point) the pictures on the walls moved and created illusions that really tricked your eyes. Also, there was the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride! While waiting in line for that, a barred up window in a wall looked down into a dungeon-like prison cell where skeletons played checkers. Aunt Linda tried to push me closer toward it and I got scared and screamed and yelled. I remember we went to the Hall of Presidents, but since I didn't know the majority of them I found it extremely boring. And of course there was the other classic rides It's A Small World and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (the first real roller coaster I ever went on). And then there was SPLASH MOUNTAIN!!! While riding through the tunnel in the little boat with my dad, something squirted water in my eye, but I never found out what it was...........

And then there was MGM Studios! I remember even less about this park, but it was still awesome. We saw the Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark stunt show. This actually scared me, not from the dangerous stunts and effects, but more for the safety of the actor playing Indiana Jones! I ended up getting a rubber snake and rubber cockroaches at the gift shop, while my brother got a fedora. Then there was the Star Wars Simulation Ride, which was really neat. We had to listen to R2D2 and C3PO argue back and forth while waiting in line. (Yes, we had to wait in line A LOT. The lines are very long in Disney World.) And I got a stuffed Ewok from the gift shop! I also remember going on the Great Movie Ride, but I covered my eyes for the first part of it, because there was something scary about it. And then I remember the 3D Muppet Show. My brother slipped and fell on the wet brick streets, trying to run ahead of us and beat us there. It was funny. Probably the best part of MGM Studios was the Tower of Terror! It really scared me, but it was awesome! I flew probably 3 or 4 inches off my seat when it dropped us; my mom and dad had to hold me down!

Besides the rides, there were lots of gift shops and parades. We saw the Lighted Parade, and Ariel waved at me. My mom and dad also bought us kids plastic rainbow light sabers that lit up. And of course we just HAD to see Cinderella's Castle! What's a trip to Disney World without seeing that?! I remember seeing the mosaic tiled pictures on the walls in the tunnel walking through/under the Castle. And at night there were lots of people carrying around rainbow glowing floating dog leashes. I wanted one so badly cuz I didn't know how it floated like that without a dog or any animal in the collar, but I never got one. One thing we were disappointed about not seeing was the Fireworks Show because it was so dry when we went.

Overall, it was an awesome vacation! Probably one of the best ever!
