It's All About Me! Shirley♥

Shirley Fenette

♥ Personality ♥

Shirley Fenette is your ordinary cheerful teenage girl with ordinary thoughts, curiosities, and worries. She is on the swim team of her school but her uniqueness is in her rather ordinary but resilient nature in a chaotic world. She loves her friends all dearly and does not hesitate to extend her kindness to others even when others are hesitant to do so. She is the type to be the first to approach the new kid at school and invite them to join her at lunch. She is a very open girl who wears her heart on her sleeve and acts according to what she feels, much unlike the guarded protagonists of the show. Shirley has a habit of jumping to conclusions and becoming easily flustered, especially when it comes to her crush, Lelouch Lamperouge. This, however, doesn't mean that she's a "fangirl" or an annoying bimbo who flaunts her feelings without thought. When she is feeling troubled, be it love or anguish, she keeps it to herself and does not seek out others' comfort in ordinary situations, presumably not to trouble them with her problems. The only time that she loses complete control of her actions is the day her father dies and she kisses Lelouch out of grief.
Shirley is determined to make Lelouch fall in love with her eventually.
She felt completely guilty about it afterwards to the point that her discomfort could be twisted into the worry that she was an attention-seeking and manipulative person - her complete opposite.

She greatly believes in the power of love (going as far as to describe it as a feeling so strong that you want to run around and jump off waterfalls screaming the person's name out loud) and in the power of forgiveness to the point where she could even eventually forgive Lelouch for inadvertently killing her father. But her love for people does not end simply at feeling strongly about their problems: she wishes to actively take part in them. Her mistakes, however, are wanting to do this too much and trusting the wrong people. These two things land her in trouble as she acts then without rational, guided by strong immediate feelings of wanting to protect to do dangerous things such as handling stolen firearms without thinking. Like with most characters of her type, her emotional nature is her strength as well as her weakness.

♥ Background ♥

In Series~
In Code Geass, Shirley is an ordinary school girl who developed a crush on Lelouch Lamperouge. She explains this attraction as a result of seeing Lelouch interact with other people in his seemingly-detatched manner. Her fondness for the boy is a result of curiosity turning into love. However, she is too shy about her feelings for him to tell him upfront though her like for Lelouch is more than obvious to her friends. Shirley plays a major role around the middle of the first season. After a battle led by Zero indirectly caused the death of her father, a Britannian soldier named Villetta Nu suggests that Lelouch may be involved with the Black Knights. The distressed Shirley follows him and discovers that he is in fact Zero, but shoots Villetta to protect his secret. She tries to write a letter about her feelings on the situation to Lelouch, only to throw it aside. A Chinese geass user named Mao then uses his mind-reading Geass to manipulate her into killing Lelouch for him, but she cannot bring herself to do so as she still loves Lelouch too much. To alleviate her suffering, Lelouch uses his Geass to erase Shirley's memories of him. Shirley rediscovers her letter near the end of the first season, but cannot confront Lelouch about it because of the rebellion that takes place.

In the second season, Shirley's memories, along with the rest of Ashford's Student Council, have been rewritten by the Emperor, erasing her memories of Zero's identity for the second time. Her affection for Lelouch returned over the past year. Her memories were restored by Jeremiah Gottwald's Geass Canceller after she confessed her feelings to Lelouch and they become a 'couple' in the eyes of the school thanks to Milly Ashford's antics.
Shirley confronts Rolo.
After coming to terms once again with Lelouch being Zero, she came to understand Lelouch's motivations and forgives him for all that he had done after realizing that he is alone in his quest in a world built on lies. She resolved to support him as the one true thing in his life, but ran into Rolo; she attempts to reason with him so he can help her join Lelouch, but when Shirley mentioned that she wants to help Lelouch reunite with Nunnally, Rolo snaps and mortally wounds her. She confesses her feelings to Lelouch when he finds her, and dies in his arms despite Lelouch's desperate attempts to command her to live.

In Paradisa~
Shirley is taken from the thirteenth of the second season - the episode where she is killed. She arrives in Paradisa at the moment that she was shot by Rolo Lamperouge. She collapses outside her room door, unable to tell what had just happened. She cried bitterly and both Lelouch Lamperouge and Clark Kent hear her call for help via the journal that lay open beside her. Both come to her rescue but since Clark is literally Superman, Clark reaches her first and whisks her away to the clinic. He calls for aid and Claire Benette hears the call. She saves Shirley via blood transfusion which instantly replenishes her blood and closes up her wound.

Afterward, Lelouch takes Shirley back to her room to clean up and have dinner. He also warns Shirley to stay clear of Rolo, revealing that Rolo was the one who had stabbed her and that the boy was an assassin that was also in Paradisa. Lelouch then tries to explain the journals to Shirley but Shirley falls asleep on him. Lelouch spent the next few nights in her room to keep an eye on her, only because he has an undying love for her and cares for her so much.

She keeps to herself for the first two weeks, awed by her magical closet that gives her designer Britannian clothing but still quite frightened by the ghosts that bring her food. Lelouch gets the help of Tony Stark to replace her lock with a more-advanced one so that no one could break in.

She makes friends with Claire and goes shopping with her. She also runs into Gino Weinberg while he was speaking in opposites.

♥ Involvement ♥

The Medieval Party~
Shortly after meeting Gino, Shirley and Lelouch decide to throw a party in honor of the student counsel members in Paradisa. Lelouch also planned to make it a welcome party for Shirley. Suzaku suggested making the party medieval-themed and so it was.

Shirley attended as a lady-in-waiting and helped Lelouch set up as they waited for people to arrive. As the party got rolling, Shirley talks to Clark, finding him quite handsome. Lelouch and Gino then started to take their roles of prince and knight too seriously and Shirley is greatly disturbed by their advances on each other. But before she could intervene and figure out what was going on, Rolo arrived at the party. Shirley becomes too distressed due to Rolo's proximity to her and flees as best as she could without making a scene.

Lelouch follows her back to her room and there she realizes that he was experiencing a loss. She does her best to convince him to go back to the party and spends the night trying to calm herself and pretend to be more cheerful than she really was.

Over the next week, she keeps an eye on Lelouch and Gino, unsure if she was more appalled or aroused by their loss.
