Our generation has a hard time with the real world because we've realized that a 'normal' life will never be possible for us. We live in a century of transformation, when things are changing constantly, on the molecular level.
And YES, it makes us feel as though NOTHING matters. Why? Because NOTHING, including ourselves, is constant. We must change COMPLETELY from decade to decade just to survive this world, smarter than our fore fathers, but with much less direction and purpose because NOTHING matters.
We are the chimeras, the cyborgs, the androids, the creations of centuries of human experimentation, almost completely different from the humans the preceded us. Previous generations say they felt as we do now, but I don't think they understand the depth to which we feel what is going on. We are lost because the world has not yet settled, but we do not rise up because it is the natural state of change right now.
They accuse us of not caring, of being lazy, of being worthless, yet they continue to rape the world while we watch in jaded, abated horror. They continue to send our friends to war, tell our children that they will have the worse education yet, and tell us when we are their age, the world will be a dust ball. We may not be changing the world in ways they can see, but we are slowly preparing ourselves to take over. Why throw thousands of us into the grinding cogs that run The World Machines when eventually that machine will run down, unoiled, ignored, obsolete.
You are not alone, and we will not let the world die. There are many different kinds of revolutions, and I believe that there is one on the horizon like no other seen on earth before. Though, if you blink, you might miss it. *wink* [/rant]
