It's an American Holiday where in the 1600's the people called the pilgrims want to go to America to seek religious. So they use the boat called the "Mayflower" at the harbor in Plymouth England. The people were 102 in the ship; 70 men and women, 32 children and teenagers, a bunch of animals and a dog. They spent 9 weeks traveling on the ship, but many of them were unhappy. Little privacy, foul smelling ship, getting seasick, two of the people died, yet one baby was born in the ship. A man name John went overboard, but they save him, and there was a damage on the ship that was damage by the storm, but they fixed it. After many weeks of suffering, they made it to America. Unfortunately, while a group of men left to find some land for the rest of the pilgrims, some of them became very ill and many them died. The group came back without any luck. So they went to another place where it discovered by an early group. Luckily, they found an open area, but no Indians were sighted. However, some of them became sick again because of the harsh weather. Only 6 or 7 adults were well enough to built a house. Later when the house was finished, it became a hospital, so is the Mayflower. Yet, the 30 children and teens were healthy to do the chores that adults left behind. But at the end of February, with the harsh weather, lack of nutritional food, and not enough medical supplies, nearly half of the 102 passengers have died. Only 20 adults and 30 children and teens survived. In early march, a miracle came, a few Indians appear seeing the pilgrims. One of them name Squanto knew their language(because he was kidnapped by a group of men years ago, but was rescued by monks, and taught him English, so they returned him home). Squanto taught them how to grow crops, and fertilized the soil. After six months, everything started to become much better. Squanto brought a few groups Indians and the cheif name Masasoit. Finally in September and October, during the Harvest time, the Pilgrims and the Indians gather a feast, and give thanks which was the first record of Thanksgiving. Though during the civil war, President Abe Lincoln declared that every last Thursday on November will be Thanksgiving. And the rest is History. cheese_whine
