Maybe Mojang is being lenient on the console players. After all, it's not as easy to play a game with a controller if its previous incarnation was a keyboard-using one. That's just my guess, though. Could be NPC's ingame that act similar to the player.

Well, if it's regular torches, then there's nothing to worry about. According to the legend, Herobrine uses redstone torches. And the game WAS recently released on the Xbox. There's bound to be a few bugs. Not even the PC game is perfect.

Wait, did your friend happen to mention if that cave had rails placed? And what kind of torches lit it? Was it normal torches or redstone torches?

Then it must be some sort of pre-made shelter added to the game. Does the world create screen have a "Generate Structures" option?

Well, those telling you to turn off your online feature are right. It's the same with PC servers. Whatever other people do on your server will change on your screen.

This isn't meant to be an insult in any way, but word of advice. In the future, if you find something in a game, try to find something other than Youtube comments to confirm what you're experiencing. Maybe look at old official development blogs or even developer interviews. Most of the stuff you hear about games are made up by the players themselves.
