sometimes sites point you to figurines of an oiran but you have to keep searchin for a site theat shows what their all about. tayu is the top prostitute she wears more elaborate clothing and hairstyles than the regular prostititue that is an oiran. back then they were prsotitutes but nowadays they don't do the sex thing anymore they just have there marches every year and try to keep the tradition up. if you go on you tube and type in yoshiwara which is the ditsrect where a lot of oirans were kept. a lot of girls back then was tricked into being an oiran. once they get you in the house you can never leave if you try to escape you were badly beaten. the tayu wears the high geta and the oirans wear the less higher geta on theri feet they tie their obi sash in the front to signify that they are oirans. and the geisha ties theirs in the back to show that they are geishas and not prostitutes.

thanks for not going off on me, because normally when i try to correct and help people they get mad and go off on me. thanks for understanding. also man you can't really trust Wikipedia because that site is known for not being accurate and it's not a reliable source to look up stuff on. because one week it will say this and then about two weeks after that it will say something else. Wikipedia only goes by what people think it is. some times it's accurate and sometimes it's not. but oirans and tayu's are prostitutes. but they don't do the sex thing nowadays but some of them do. but it's a law out for them now. they can no longer do the sex thing and be stuck in a brothel the rest of their life... like way, way back then. my school blocks wikipedia sites beuase they are not a reliable source to look up something on.

um i know you don't know me but i saw your comment in the arenas and i would like to inform you that geishas are not courtesans. your getting them mixed up with oirans, oirans are courtesans. they look and dress like geisha kinda but they are not geishas. oirans are prostitutes that wear high geta shoes with no tabi's on and they put their obi bow in the front. geishas wear tabis on their feet and they wear their bow in the back of them. thats how you tell the diffeence between the prostitutes and the geishas. geishas sing dance and communicate with the client but thats all they do. oirans however not only communicate with the client they have sex with the client. but today they no longer do that some may still do but their not suppose to. in japan tayu's(high class coutesan(prostitute)) do a march and wear the high geta shoes. geishas are not whores everyone get them mixed up with oirans but oirans are the one that do the sex act not the geishas and not even the maiko's that are apprentice geisha. i'm not saying all this to be mean to you, i'm just trying to help you and make you understand the difference between them. and if you don't think i'm telling the truth you can go look it up for yourself. and then you will see what i'm talking about. sayonara ja mata ne!
