I really enjoy the two quotes that you have as your signature. It would be fun to continue our question and answer session.

Because ... why? LOL Honestly, that's what it comes down to. I don't believe JP's do marriages around here anymore, so the only way to get married is to have a church wedding. I'm *really* not big on hypocrisy, and most churches that I'm familiar with require that a couple are faithfully attending members.

LOL Thinking about it - it seems that our government is moving us toward the idea that marriage is a religious ceremony and that the norm should be common-law.

Well, we don't have any fear of marriage, so I can't much help you with that. I've definitely known people who think that way, though. The closest understanding I can come to is that when they are living together, they feel as though they can leave at any time (which is rather naive after a couple kids and buying joint property together). Getting legally married, though, feels like a "trap" (people have said as much in the Duggar thread).

Of course, Khunn and I have sat down with a lawyer and drawn up our own "trap", which we're quite happy in. But if both sets of parents treat us as married, our marriage counselor (preventative, NOT because of any serious problems) thinks we have "a wonderful marriage", the government treats us as married, and we're not particularly religious ... the best reason people come up with for why ours isn't a valid marriage is "well, well, well, it's not as valid as mine."

Ah, yes. smile We do live in a province that acknowledges common law marriage. I can legally use his last name. He's my next of kin. I can't figure out any reason to have the ceremony and piece of paper, since we have every benefit either automatically, or through our own legal paperwork. I keep asking - no one can come up with a reason that doesn't revolve around the relationship ending. THAT isn't going to happen (and yes, I'm that certain), and death inheritance is covered with our wills.

I'm not sure what argument I made for ... what did you call it "marriage-alternative"? But thanks. Refresh my memory?

Six kids - that sounds like a very nice family. If Khunn and I have any more, I'll birth in a hospital because of health problems I now have, and because of my age. Blech. We seriously considered unassisted homebirth for our toddler, but it's a good thing we didn't, because I had an emergency transfer to the hospital.

Deeply Feel For You
By the way, I really admire the Aldous Huxley quote.

I think it makes it quite clear that Huxley didn't always agree with his own work. (=

Dont assume i am young because of my views, and dont come up in my post telling me that you know god, and act like you are his best buddy, and preach to me about what "god intends to do" you dont know what god wants for anyone, you dont know anything about god you are just assuming like me. I dont need a preacher arguing a supposed gods point of view. You may think you know god but you dont, and the only views you have on god is views from people who wrote a book and nothing more.
