Poems for English for my response to The Lovely Bones
*Info on the book. Please read before reading my poems*
The Lovely Bones is a wonderfully depressing book (Yes I did use wonderful and Depressing in the same sentance, oxymoron or not it's true) about a girl named Susie Salmon who is raped, murdered and dismembered by her neighbour. The book focuses on Susie and how she "watches" her family, friends, would-have-been boyfriend Ray and other loved ones try to steer their lives forward without her being apart of them. I don't want to give too much of the book away but it's a really amazing book even if it does sound like a chick book 3 out of the 5 guys in my English class read the book and they even said it was really good.
Among the clouds The angels dance They watch our lives spinning by. Wishing they could be there to watch us live When the rain falls from the skies Everyone knows the angels cry Their humanity remains A part of them in every way Never again will they hold us in their arms Although they aren’t near They aren’t gone They wish us well They wish us here We pray for the answers to life Why they were stolen from us By the cruel fates How could a God who wants our love Refuse to let us keep the ones we love?
Below the bitter tears The lovely bones show the fears A family torn Alone they morn Each one hiding How they truly feel The scars slowly begin to heal The anger never goes away They betray the ones They swore to protect A soul becomes a broken shadow Her life become another. The girl must live up to her sister Her loves ignored Along with her own shadow The shadow that was replaced With another
