Laurel was manipulated by an outside force. Her first mission was to kill Megaera. She did so by having her pet Death Ringer rip off her wings. Megaera knew her life was on the line, so she offered an ultimate sacrifice, the right to pass through the three different time portal using "keys":

Urd- the past
Verdandi- the present
Skuld- the future

Laurel finally agreed to let her live in exchange for this power. Once she took the keys though, the force behind her actions grew stronger, she held Megarea up and shoved her into a harsh pile of rocks. She then begain therowing nearby boulders into the pit, crushing Megaera. Laurel makes her next voyage, to the future
