I was walking alone going to see her. The cold winter air was hitting me like bricks. I could see the breath escaping from my mouth as I exhaled vanilla lace. A stocky built man approached me. “Gold watches for sale, $20 each” he said as he opened his jacket exposing about 13 “gold” watches. “Piss off” I yelled. I started running. Running from my past. Running from the present. Running from the future.

I arrived at Spring Creek towers, her apartment complex located on the east side of Brooklyn. I navigated my way to Building 14. I opened the door. She stepped out of the shadows. “What do you want?” I asked. She inched towards me with tears in her eyes. My gaze fell to the floor. “Our relationship I-I want to mend it. I love you Zack, I always will” She said now openly crying. “No matter how many times you say that it still won’t change the fact that I can’t be with you Emily” I strained on the last words. I looked into her eyes. “I’m leaving” I sighed. I started heading towards the door. “I will wait for you” she said “Endlessly”. I opened the door and looked back at her one final time before leaving.

Memories of us good memories, bad memories, sad memories all came rushing back to me at once. “So spoke misery” I mumbled. I tried to convince myself that our love, like winter would never last but that wasn’t working. Right now I needed to be absolved. When I was a little kid I would always have a nightmare about a woman I nicknamed Miss Murder. She would always tell me that beauty could be saved if I took my life away. I never understood what she meant until now...

I closed my eyes. When I opened them I was in the place I had dreamt of many years before. In the far distance I saw the silhouette of a woman. “Miss Murder?” I questioned to myself. I ran to her. “Hey Miss Murder” She didn’t respond so I repeated “Hey Miss Murder” She turned around and looked at me with a wry smile. She started descending down the hill she stood upon. “Come down” she said. “But cold resides with me”. She shook her head “Calm down. Lets go to the place that you belong, with all erased.” She stuck her hand out. I grabbed it. I flee to Decemberunderground. As you exhale. I breathe in and sink into the waterunderground and I’ll grow old without you.
