As a poor girl, she wandered the streets, wishing even for a crumb from which to feed. Her only friend and consolation in the world was her Kiki Plushie. Carrying it to her people would laugh at her and she would hide behind her glasses clutching her stuffed animal to her chest. She would then run from the jeers, her messenger bag banging at her side.
Walking across a street she smelt something new and went in search of this new smell that was sweet to her senses, and yet burnt her nostrils. She had never seen a beach before and to see one excited her. She ran across the sand, fascinated with that shells that she found. Wishing she was a queen and free of her street-wandering life, she adorned her hair with shells and pretended to have a crown.
Finding a cave, she ventured inside to find an old gauntlet that was too big for her but was beautiful with its sapphire stone inlaid in it. Proud of her findings she fit her hand into it and carried it about hoping it wouldn't slip off her hand.
When she returned back to the city, a gendarme found her and accused her of theivery, for she was too poor to have afforded anything as glorious as the gauntlet or crown that she bore. When taken to jail, she hid in the corner and was grateful when a man came to her aid and saved her from the rotting cell.
When she arrived at her new home the man offered her a new family. She lived there with her new brother, father, and mother. When she was out playing the backyard with her brother she saw a house, covered up with leaves on the edge of the forest. Curious, she went into the house to find a witch that questioned the young girl's courage. Never thinking that she had courage, the young girl gave admitted this, but the witch still gifted her with a beautiful scarf and with the gift of the gods saying "It takes more courage to admit your faults than it does to slay a dragon."
