Newbie and Noob
Use of Newbie and N00b on Gaia Online
A newbie is a new member of Gaia Online who does not beg for gold, asks for help in a respectful and a good manner, and attempts to use correct grammar and spelling. This is not the stereotypical so called n00b and they also follow the rules.

A n00b however uses chat speak (also known as n00b talk) in their posts, either because it's faster or that's the only way they know to communicate.

Example of chatspeak: Omgz some1 jst gab mah 1ooG!1#113!!2

This is a common indication to other Gaians that you are a n00b. Not all cases of chatspeak will identify you as a newbie for this example:

Omg, some1 just gav me 100G!!

Spamming outside of chatterbox and demanding gold is a obvious identification of a n00b.

Example: Give me your gold now, dammit!

Being rude will not earn friends and earns one the reputation of a n00b.

N00bs often bump pages for a sole purpose of getting gold. Bumping outside chatterbox when the topic is still on the first page of the topic list is spam.

Noob talk
An underground joke is "noob talk" or "NUB/NOB TALK". Noob talk is when an individual (often a non-n00b being ironic) intentionaly use spelling errors, terrible punctuation, and too much internet slang. A lot of "real" noob talk is found on games such as GunBound, Ragnarok Online, Counter-Strike, and RuneScape. Also, there are many examples of noob talk on game-related websites, especially forums. An example of this dialect is "ITAM PLZ" (translated into "Items Please" wink . In an MMORPG like Runescape, advanced players sometimes walk up to a newbie and plead "moses plx!!," making fun of how many new players whine for in game currency and items. Others might randomly shout "i 4m t3h pWn!" or perhaps "t3h d00m!". In many ways, this is similar to the 1980s B1FF postings on Usenet.

One way to discern between "real" n0ob talk and "joke" no0b talk on Gaia Online is to check a Gaian's post history, profile, or journal; if they have decent grammar, chances are it is a joke. However, with the prevailance of mule accounts, it is entirely possible for an elaborite trickster cover up any evidence of their non-nOObdom. The best way to tell whether it is ironic or not is the text itself. Telltale signs of a joke are spelling out whole words. A real n00bspeaker, however, will often take more shortcuts than possible.

Example of real "noob talk":

OMG LOLOLOLO U SUK!!!!!!!11
OMFG R U SERIUS??? <<PERSON>> IS SUCH A NEWBIEz0r$!!!1!!!11!!!1!
Example of joke "noob talk":

OMGWTFBBQ U SUK11oneone11!one
omfgkthxbai11one1+shift
Calling someone a n00b may be considered trolling and/or flaming, very similar to calling someone a troll or flamer. Gaiapedia encourages readers not to call people a n00b. We are not held responsible if you get banned or warned.

Noob generally describes a player's current behavior rather than his level of game experience. Although apparently originating from reactions to the ignorance among new players, its usage extends to high-level players who act similarly, and invalid with new players who lack apparent foolishness. Someone online may call someone a "n00b", who offline would call him or her a loser or idiot.
