Sour to the Core
There's a Fly in my Lemonade
He hands me a drink
On a silver platter.
"Excuse me?", I says,
He replies, "What's the matter?"

"I believe there's a fly
In my lemonade.
You should do better,
if you're getting paid."

So he says, "I'm so sorry,
I'll get right to it,"

And I says "You best,
'cause you've already blew it."

So he snatches the tray
And comes back with a new one
And says, "Drink up, now,
Enjoy, have some fun."

So he walks away and
I takes a sip
Soon spitting it out,
And biting my lip.

"The nerve you have, sir!
This tastes too sour!
Hopefully you're being
Paid by the hour."

The customers first,

he thinks in his gloom
And carries it, once more,
Into the other room.

He works his hardest
On a flawless drink
Not too sweet, not too sour,
"It's perfect! I think.."

So he brings in back to me,
And I gladly accept,
Before I could complain,
To the kitchen, he crept.

So I dranks some again
And could dig up no weakness
Except for that horrible
Waiter's bleakness.

"Oh, waiter," I cries,
Waving my hand.
He rolls his eyes and says,
"I understand.

"I'll never be perfect
Whatever I do.
I guess even my
Lemonade's bad too.

"The world's filled with mistakes,
Lady, open your eyes!
You shouldn't care 'bout
Something simple as flies.

"Just pick the fly out,
And get on with your day.
'There's a little bad in good,'
As I always say.

"Now as for the bill:
Comes to $8.83."

I says "That much? You've gotta
be kidding me!

"Well you're not getting
A tip from me,
With prices like that,
You're most likely crazy.

"I'm the queen of my own world,
Too important to care,"

I points to his head and say
"What's all up in there.

"So you've got a theory,
Well good for you.
In case you haven't noticed,
I've got my own too.

"And my theory is that
Karma is a lie.
Nothing comes back around.
We were all born to die."

He replies, "That's not true,
There's this thing called fate.
I'm sure if you'd listen,
You could relate."

"Oh fine then, go on"
I miserably sighs,
Filing my nails and
Rolling my eyes.

"You see, madam,
Other people matter too.
The world does not
Revolve around you.

"And if this is something simple
As a little fly,
How d'you think the fly feels?"

And I asks "Why?"

"Well, it's just one fly,
But a difference it makes.
He's got a family to go to,
Who's full of mistakes.

"See, now, without flies
We'd have no birds,
And without those in the morning,
No songs to be heard,"

"And without birds we'd have many
More insects and such,
And before you know it,
The one fly is quite much.

"Now if that's just the difference
An insect made in life,
Think what your actions can do!
More than cause people strife.

"The little stress inside,
It starts to build up.
And soon a spoonful
Turns into a cup

"And a cup to a bucket,
A bucket to a lake
So ignore life's miniscule
Unimportant mistakes."

"I've never really thought 'bout it
That way before."

So I picks up my bags,
And runs out the door.

He sighs and smiles at
The small difference he made.
Then stops to realize,
He hadn't been paid!

Now $5 is little
Enough to forget
But $8.83!
There goes his paycheck...

The moral is,
Don't go insane 'bout mistakes
Let go of small, but keep
The difference it makes.

POETS NOTE: Based on a true story x] Keyword: BASED. I thought of the title when I found a cockroach in the cups cupboard. [Joy...] I thought I would make something deep that didn't rhyme, and non-relevant to the title except in a metaphorical way (for example all the mean comments all of my parents have said, and the kids at school, etc. say, to ruin my life that I love with my friends, my writing, and my music.) But I thought something catchy would brighten my day. And it tells a story! burning_eyes Now that I re-read it, it doesn't make much sense. Wait... waaaaiiitt... kay. Now it does. I'm good. cool
