Of Wolves and ‘Pires

Chapter I: To Teranova


Ariemas sat in an extravagant armchair made of what seemed to be wolves fur. The black fur of the chair contrasting with his own orange-red fur. The chair was fashioned in the shape of a throne and was so tall that the white tips of his ears barely stood taller than the top of it. The room he was in was designed to resemble a small cathedral.

Opposite Ariemas, sat a very pale man with vivid emerald eyes and a wicked smile. The man sat in a chair similar to the fox’s, however; his was fashioned out of golden fur. The man surveyed his guest with what looked like a man sizing up a miniscule opponent. After a few minutes the man began speaking, but Ariemas could not hear him, and when Ariemas would reply he could not hear his own voice. It was as if he was a deaf passenger in his own body.

The silent conversation carried on with Ariemas getting steadily more angry even though he had no idea what was being said. After several minutes he stood up and shouted in rage, still silent, and then the silence was broken when the man laughed, he laughed a horrible echoing laugh. His laugh made the hairs on Ariemas’s neck bristle, his laugh chilled the fox to the bone, and then the room was spinning. Then all went dark.

Ariemas awoke suddenly. His head was spinning and he was sweating violently. His fur was soaked and he was shivering uncontrollably. He laughed a quiet and scared laugh out loud while thinking “That was vivid” .
Ariemas shook his head trying to remove the laughing that was still ringing in his ears.

He rolled over in preparation to return to sleep when he noticed the sun peeking into the tent. “just as well, I cant sleep now anyway.” He stood up and began to look for his clothes when he saw them laying on the opposite side of the only other occupants of the tent.
