If you've been reading my journal at all, you may be familiar with my Avatar Arena rants. Just how pissed I am at the people who rag on you for having a "plain" avi, just because you don't have 147 MCs and Giftbox items on your avi. For this reason they frown upon cosplay. Note, I cosplayed Christina Aguilera (from the "Candyman" video) and they said the same exact thing to me (or the occasional "It looks like Sailor Moon in a police hat" sorry you're all otakus and weaboos).
Now, I could enter something, like Christina. And no one cares. I get a few good votes but otherwise no one really cares and downvotes. Meanwhile, you get an old-school cartoon character or Nintendo character and it's a winner. Are you just downvoting everything but the "retro-cool" or "nerdy" avis to boost your scene cred? Dumbass. This is the reason Christina was downvoted (or, just not Christina fans, which is in some cases understandable). Now, say I entered someone like Lily Allen. I might get the same thing. But because she's not Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, or an anime/cartoon/TV/video game character, I'll get downvoted for it. I know there's no way to avoid downvoting. I might fare better with her than I would with Christina, but still, she's too "preppy and bleh." So maybe I ought to give up on the arena altogether...hm.
