"Yes, bald man, looks strong. Has a shirt with the number 23 on it. Short pants. My address is..." I woke up and saw my dad whispering to the phone. He was standing at the doorway of my room. I got up and gently closed the door and body slammed by bed. Without breathing for a moment, I eavesdropped. I heard my dad's quiet footsteps enter another room, the master bedroom. A got up and went into the room. Both my mom and dad were up, and they were peeking out of a window. Confused, I also looked out the window, but my mom quietly scolded me for sticking my head out of the window. As I withdrew my head, the story unfolded. A man was in our backyard, trying to break in to our house. Our backyard led to the den and the basement. The man had a tool and he tried to open all three of the basement's windows. That failed, so he tried to open the door that led to our den. From our den, it'll lead to our kitchen and living room. So that was when my dad called the police. Shortly after, two NYPD cars entered my street and a handful of policemen got out. They saw the man and asked them questions. The man lied to them saying he was our neighbor's son and was sleeping over at our house. Soon enough, my neighbor came out and asked what was going on. After a few minutes of conversation, the police returned to their cars (and by now, we weren't peeking out of the window anymore) Later, my dad told me that Spiky, my dog woke him up with short, alert barks. "If it wasn't for him," he said. "I wouldn't have woken up earlier."
My dad once told me a story about the house we live in. He said the previous owner of the house used to get robbed on occasions. So, he put these decorative "bars" out on every window on the first floor. They are really tough and hard to get through. You need to use a machine that can cut through the bars -but that will make a very loud noise, now would it? My dad also told me that our Malaysian neighbors were robbed when they were on vacation. They were extremely shocked to find out that a burglary happened at their house...poor them~!
