memoirs of a college freshman.
let's see if i can survive dorm-life in nyc.
first days; the hotel
so me and my mom left to go to nyc on saturday, and after a very long day in the car we finally got to...........the hotel.
i went into the room while my mom parked the car, and first saw this big huge yellow maintenance fan sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed, pointed at the window. i was like "oooookay.." so i turned it off and moved it, then smelled something musky, like something was wet, and something with a more perfume-like scent. i discovered the source of the perfume-like smell first, when i moved the curtains to see the view, a brick wall, i saw a bottle of the mini freebie shampoo spilled on the ledge in front of the window. the lamp on the desk to the left of the window was dismantled, and upon screwing the lightbulb in, i discovered that it didnt work afterall. then i walked to the bathroom, and it definitely needed some bleach. then my mom came to the room, i presented the problems, she walked across the area the fan was near, discovering that the floor was wet, which explained the musky wet smell in the room.
she proceeded to call the concierge to rectify these problems, also adding that she requested a smoking room when she was given a non-smoking room. they arranged for her to move to a smoking room the following day, and took $7O off the first night, but we still had to stay in that room because there was absolutely nowhere else to go. so we went to the bar, where a bottle of standard bud light was $5. so including a tip, essentially a $6 beer. ouch.
when she was leaving the hotel, the woman who was helping my mom through this situation was aware that she was there to see me off to college, and gave her a free night to come back and visit when she got the time, and said that if i was ever in that part of town and needed anything to stop into the hotel and see her and she would do the best to help me out. i really appreciate the kindness showed to my mom while she was going through this tough time and the extended invitation for me into the amazing city of new york. <3

Yay, for City life. The one thing Science will never be able to explain.

I can't believe they gave you the room in that condition. That really sucks. Six dollars for a beer? Thats...wrong. Just plain wrong. stare Yay to that lady who helped your mom. The world needs more people like that. Have fun in College! xd
