I guess when people don't expect anything from anyone, it's so that their feelings don't get hurt in the end. People try to do things for you, and as long as you didn't expect anything in the first place, you can't pretend that you weren' let down. I think that can be said for any general situation. It's hard to be hurt, and to want things. Maybe that's why some people just don't want anything anymore. It's not that they're trying to save you a penny, but more to save themselves the chance of having their heart be torn between the truth and what they should have said.
