Art blabs -
To people from the freebie thread: tektek doesn't have the new hair yet. I'll do the tektek contest when the new hairstyles are available over there.

I used to be somewhat intimidated by art school students/ graduates. I don't have that kind of training/ background... A part of my mind simply assumed that those people had an advantage over me, that I had a nigh-insurmountable obstacle standing between what I could do and what they could do.

This is not true. There are many excellent artists out there, some with formal training, some without. Nowadays, I keep getting reminded that I can do just as well as people who went to art school.

I'm not depreciating the value of formal education. Art school is a good thing, but classes are what you make them to be. I still want to go to art school (when I have more time!), just with a different attitude. Instead of feeling vaguely intimidated, I would enter the classroom with a sense of confidence.

    Good luck with art school.

Your art is beautiful and I hope you never have to doubt yourself or your art again.

I'm a self taught artist with a background in technical drawing. I agree with you. Art school is a great tool but how that tool is used depends on the one using it! 3nodding

    [:

    You're a wonderful artist, dear. <3
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Respect yourself, and open your eyes to new ideas.Trust yourself, and those who care for you. They wouldn't lie.

When you get to art college, just remember that. Let your creative roots grow into unimaginable places. You have the talent, and it certainly is budding into something beautiful. C:

After all, isn't that why you're going to art school?

Your art is wonderful, and I quite agree with you about there being so many people out there who are excellent artist, whether they have trained or not. I think you do wonderfully as it is, and you will only grow in the future, learning from your surroundings, life, other artists, and possibly school. ^_^

I wish you all the best with your art!

I agree. I've never really had any formal training in art, since all my art teachers ever do is just give me time to do my own work while they're teaching the rest of the class... I guess it's because I'm most inspired when I can do my own stuff.

I personally believe you have absolutely no reason to feel intimidated by going to art class, Keiiii; your works are always gorgeous in my opinion.
I'm sure once you have time and take that up, people will tell you the same and the teacher will be glad you have such prior knowledge from learning on your own.

Good luck and have fun! If you're confident, nothing can hold you down. ^_^~♥

I've felt the same about art school and graduates thereof in the past myself. Then again these days I sometimes feel that way about anyone who has time to work with their art. blaugh
I have three children (two are quite little) and these days there's just no time to indulge my muse in that way. But...
I fully intend to go to art school once they've started school and the reason is, the advantage I see art school giving is; time to play with various mediums under the guide of those who have experience with them.
Heck if I was rich I could spend as much time and money as I like on playing with different mediums until I got wicked masterful with them all! But I'm not, so school is my option. wink
Not to mention getting to see and share all that inspiration and techniques and ideas with everyone else there. xd

How is what I was saying different...? sweatdrop I was saying that I agree that formal training isn't a must for excellent art.

I think your pieces are simply amazing. Especially the realism/painter-ly ones XD
It's true that you don't necessarily need to take a art class to be good. I've seen plenty of examples on deviant art who've never been to an art class and who are "depressingly good". T____T Some people are just talented, period. I wish I had some of your skills/imagination
