Y'know, the old go-gaia layout wasn't bad, but it looked like a site designed for little kids. If that's what Gaians like, fine, but whenever Gaia changes its layout people say the new layout is too "childish." And they cite the old go-gaia layouts for example of a less childish layout.
gonk
Pastel colors (pinks and yellows and greens and bluuuuue!), cute little borders everywhere, cutesy fonts? Less childish? Not in my book.
My theory is that most of those people are simply attached to the old layout because of nostalgia. I bet if the current layout were in place back in 2004, and Gaia just switched to this, those same people would be all like "eww, I'm LEAVING GAIA."
Now, I've seen people arguing that the old layout was more "welcoming" (as opposed to less childish), and I can see where they're coming from. I do not agree with them, as I am about to explain, but at least I can respect them.
Why do I not think the old layout was more welcoming? Well, it WAS a welcoming layout, that's for sure, but it looks like... like it's welcoming the wrong group of people. Little kids. This means it would be unappealing to typical people who aren't in that age group.
It's okay to not like something. But let's try to be as objective and accurate about why you don't like it, at least. Words like "childish" may seem like convenient critique tools, but they aren't always the correct description to use.
