The sun was well over the horizon, the rays flowed into the valleys and peaks of the mountain. Vast scenery before her, but the mouth of the cave she was headed held her eyes. The etchings so colorful, seemed to dance in the mornings light. The worry of what was ahead seemed to melt away at least for the time nothing else crossed her mind.
A kind of calm came over her as she drew nearer to the etchings. Her eyes taking in each as they fell in turn one to the next. Her steps drew her nearer until she outstretched her hand to trace lightly her fingertips across the stone. "It would have taken someone with exceptional skill to have done this sort of detailed work." Kierstien quietly commented to herself as she was just in awe at the quality of the pictures.
She could only see so far down the passageway before it would be to dark for the sun's rays reach. The passeway was literally carved into the mountain itself, curving and twisting it's way through to reach across to the other side, without having to actually climb this massive thing, or spend at least a good four days travel to walk around it. Nearby trade must have neccesitated quicker access to the towns on either side.
Luckily she was so very well versed in traveling, and it was not nearly her first time away from home so to speak. She had a well stocked backpack, and she was ready for _nearly_ anything. She took a moment to assess the situation, of course there was no apparent danger, she could hear the faint sounds of the crew getting ready for the days work back at the mines. A passing thought with a smile was that if she were to ever meet that nice couple again, she should have to ask them about this passage, and if there were some story to go along with it.
For now she would make up her own 'epic' storyline to pass the time as she would continue onwards. Perhaps the artist slayed each of these dragons, perhaps to show respect for the creature, he made each one carved differently, huge array of elegant and powerful poses. Some breathed fire, and some were curled up sleeping. An animal lover, she loved all creatures from the great dragon's to the smallest ant.
She paused her steps a moment to pull a torch and flint from her bag. One swift strike on the smooth stone surface was enough to make a suitable flame for traveling with. She never did fancy magic, and wasnt ever really good at that sort of thing. She had to find other means than simply snapping her fingers, or chanting in some strange tounge.
After she had settled the pack against her once more, she headed into the mouth of the cave to see what awaited her on the other side. She would find water hard to come by, for it was a dusty dry desert indeed.
Kierstien was in good spirits to say the least, she did not fear the unknown that she knew lie ahead. She had in her years learned to take things as they came, and not dwell on what has or hasnt happened. The path that lie ahead she saw no less and no more as an Adventure! She really should just make that her last name, Kierstien (the) Adventurer!
"Traveling alone usually entails lots of conversations with yourself, that's for sure." Torch held ahead of her, she focused on the darkness, and would use her hearing to detect any movement besides her own footsteps along the winding pathway. The opening was large enough to accomodate herself, though her and any large animal might have a scuffle if they should cross paths.
Other than her torch it was completely dark inside, she sure was glad she didnt just leave in a huff, and took time to pack first. She might find the other side by mornings light tomorrow, but it she would have to pick up the pace if she was going to get anywhere fast!
