My songs, which only Angels Sing
Things I decide to write so that you can read them.
Figuratively Speaking
In a world without light, no one would be able to see; see the difference between our physical selves. People would no longer hate or judge simply based off of visual perceptions; we would become less ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would learn to see without light - to see who we truly are. Things would be better in a world without light.
In a world without sound, no one would be able to hear; hear the sobs of the deprived, the scorn of the jealous, or the barks of anger. People would no longer say things they don't mean; we would become less ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would learn to hear without sound - to hear our true heart-beats and our one rythym. Things would be better in a world without sound.
In a world without physical sensitivity, no one would be able to feel; feel the pain of violent lashing out, the pain of being abused, or the pain of loss. People would no longer learn to hate or to be violent, and we would learn to trust one another; we would become less ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would learn to feel without sensitivity - to feel ourselves and others unbiasedly with love. Things would be better in a world without sensitivity.
In a world without emotions, no one would be able to feel; feel depression at the difficulties of life, feel the pain of heartbreak, or the anger to hurt another. People would no longer hate one another for reasons we can't be blamed for; we would become less ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would learn to feel without emotions - to learn how to truthfully interact with each other. Things would be better in a world without emotions.
But without light, we couldn't see all the good that does exist; the unbiased acceptence, the beauty of life and love, the generosity of people. We wouldn't be able to see all the reasons why life is worth living; we would become more ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would forget the beautiful things of life, and truly lose our sight forever. Things wouldn't be better in a world without light.
And without sound, we wouldn't be able to hear babies laughing, or hear the sound of life happening, or hear those close to us tell us "I love you". We wouldn't be able to hear all the things that make life worth living; we would become more ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would forget all the wonderful things we've heard that made us laugh and cry, that made us love, and truly lose our hearing forever. Things wouldn't be better in a world without sound.
And without sensitivity, we wouldn't be able to feel hugs from friends and family, or grandparent's pinching our cheeks, or the loving embrace of your important someone. We wouldn't be able to feel the things that help us get through the day, that help us get through the next day, and the next, and the next.... We would become more ignorant of one another. Eventually, we would forget how to be gentle, how to take care of one another, and how to give a helping hand, and truly lose our sensitivity forever. Things wouldn't be better in a world without sensitivity.
And without emotions, we wouldn't be able to feel love and love in return, we would never smile or laugh, we would no longer care about anything. We wouldn't be able to feel the warmth of a smile, feel compassion for someone else, or understand what love means. Eventually, we would forget what it means to care about anything and we would become apathetic towards everything, and truly lose our emotions forever.
In the end, a world without creativity would mean that we couldn't devise new weapons of war, or plan betrayal or revenge, or develop new reasons to harm one another. But without creativity, we could no longer think of ways to stop those wars from happening, to work out our problems so that betrayal or revenge wouldn't happen, or have sensible people who knew how to accept others for who they are.
In the end, a lot of things in life we take for granted are difficult to deal with and cause problems. But in the end, we need those things to maintain who we are, because without them, we lose not only ourselves, but any chance of making things better.
