Thankful: I have lost count
I am in school now and today I am thankful for culture. It's really a strange thing to be thankful for since I have claimed that I don't really have an Indian culture like many people believe. In fact, my 'culture' is West Indian. That is, an integration in a sense, of African, Indian, Chinese, American and all various cultures to make an amazingly diverse group of people.

I have often spit at cultural segregation but I have learned to appreciate various cultures by living in the Caribbean. I have gained a fair understanding of each culture and the role it plays in every life of each individual. Diverse, yet rooted, I am thankful that we have a culture.

That's the beauty of the west indian culture. We gain an insight of so many different ways of life, religious aspects and frames of mind. We are able to keep to our teachings and our beliefs while still recognizing and appreciating the teaching and ways of life of others around us. The caribbean is such a small place, and is so friendly and so diverse that it is a wealth of knowledge right at our finger tips. I am proud to be here, and though I was born in England, alot of my family grew up in the caribbean, and I have came here every year till i moved here, a good ten years ago. I can safely call myself a proud Grenadian, and a proud West Indian.
