The horn startled me as it rang to start.
Before I could even take a step,
They were a million miles away from me.
I panicked as I realized I couldn’t catch up.
They were so far away in my mind.
No matter what I did all I could was fail.
“I am holding them back”, I thought.
I truly wanted to give in to my flaw.
One, two and three times they’ve lapped me.
I feel bleak and alone going at my pace.
All are carrying my burden on their shoulders.
Making up for lost time they rush me forward.
It was unfair in my mind.
But I knew they merely wanted victory.
“I can’t do it”, was all that rang in my head.
Tears rolled down as I sank to my knees.
Stopped in my tracks I didn’t what to do.
I looked down and saw my reflection.
I wanted to scoff at myself for this.
A hand offered me help.
“Call us not ten but rather one”, I heard.
Wiping away my tears to see clearly,
I rose from the ground,
And thanked them for the help.
Side by side we ran to the end.
I smiled from ear to ear at this triumph.
The upcoming finish line came so close.
Together we finished the race at last.
