A large tapestry hung on the wall of the Faery throne room. Rook stared up at the words still unable to read them thoroughly. Nevertheless he knew the story the tapestry foretold. It was his destiny. A memory sounded in his head as he looked at the familiar artwork.
“‘There is no in between.’” She read, “‘all things lean to dark or light.’”
“I know that mother.” Rook told her. It was easy to see the difference between him and all things around him.
“‘Until the realms achieve peace they will be torn by war.’” She shook her head. “I disagree with this prophecy. Peace will be achieved when your father wins this war.”
“Isn’t peace the real goal mother?”
She leaned close to her son who sat on her lap. “We would be better off if darkness ruled. Darkness is strong. The light thinks they are better than darkness. They are far from ‘pure.’”
“Aren’t you light?” He asked still not convinced.
“There’s still more to the prophecy.” She evaded the dangerous question. “‘Two drawn by fate and two by destiny. A ring, a memory, and a war to bring peace.’”
“Now I just have to wait.” Rook quietly spoke to himself still staring up at the tapestry. Ever since his mother left the people seemed to pay less attention to him. He was left to think to himself, darkness in a sea of light. They didn’t show him any disrespect since he was their young prince but they didn’t go out of their way for him.
“Mother, why did you leave me here?”
