The settings is a city, where things that aren't ment to be alive, are. Like trees and such. Most people ignore the fact though, to be classed 'sane'
In this time, Humans that can talk to there nature are becoming a dying breed really. They are losing contact, and it is really inevitable. Children are taught to ignore the voices heard from the plants, then animals and anything around them, and being children, they listen and learn, growing up to only hear the faint occasional whispers of creatures.
The animals and stationary are taking a stand- They do bold acts to catch the attention of the humans, telling them the important of this speech, that they weren't just crazy, they could hear the voice of animals and such. Most humans completely ignore it, while a few people, those inklings of hope- listen to them.
On the time period, it is somewhat modern, but in a alternate world to ours. They have clean environmentally clean energy, which is really cheap. Gas is a rarer though and isn't used to much around the household, because of the cost. Weapon technology is rather behind though, while other science is zooming on forward. Magic is still quite common, as people still just see it as a 'normal' thing.

Bio thingo: Charlie was brought up on the streets by Rinko and the fellow cats, forming a close bond with them. He fully supports any of the creatures campaigns, helping them as much as he can. He feels somewhat ashamed of being a human, and wishes he could be a cat himself.
He is occasionally bullied and annoyed by the towns folk, denied of any jobs which let him receive money. He usually scrounges around for food, just like the cats do, but a lot harder for him. Seeing as he isn't a cute kitty, he can't meow around peoples doorsteps until they give him food.
