The flame flickers as a slight wind blows,
dancing, sending lights across the walls.
Flame licking wax as the hours die down,
slithering onto the tabletop still as stone as it cools.
Eyes wandering notice slight movements under the covers,
up and down the motions pulse.
Something breathes....
A shift in action and a face appears.
Young, peaceful in its sugarplum dreams,
unknown to the world around them.
Little creeks and noises whisper as the house settles,
and the fire begins to burn out.
The last wisps of light dance in the cats eyes,
they dance across the walls, ceiling,
till finally all is done and absorbed into darkness....
