Zelda Rant
So I've been obsessing with Wind Waker lately. I finally got the game for myself and has been playing it ever since. So the new kindling of my old Zelda love led to me watching a whole bunch of reviews on Twilight Princess. And now that's led to me ranting about it...

So: Twilight Princess. Loved it.

But one thing a lot of people kept pointing out was the fact Nintendo once again chose not to use voice actors for the dialogue in the game. They relied on text, which many thought was outdated. But I liked it. The impish gibberish occasionally coming from Midna helped give her character. Also, I think Hyrule would lose a slight touch if the characters spoke in English. I may not have much faith in English voice actors but for something like Twilight Princess I trust Nintendo and the quality of voice acting isn't so much the problem.

The characters are suppose to be talking in Hylian. In Wind Waker some of the NPCs talked gibberish, supposidly speaking in Hylian, a language that was lost in Wind Waker. Making the characters speak in English would make Hyrule lose a little of its sense of being a different world. Also, I don't see how the current voices aren't working, so I guess I'm afraid for change. But you never know, Nintendo could make it work.

But I would be very, very, very sad if they gave Link a voice. He isn't suppose to have a voice. You take on the role of the hero in green and it's like how for Halo's Master Chief you never see his face: because you're Master Chief. You take on the character's identity and that factor'll be gone if you gave Link a voice.

Next topic of interest: Hyrule's storyline. In a cutscene in Wind Waker the King of Red Lions explains what happend to Hyrule.

Quote:
Once, long ago, this land of Hyrule was turned into a world of shadows by Ganon, who sought to obtain the power of the gods for his own evil ends. My power alone could not stop the fiend, and our only choice was to leave the fate of the kingdom in the hands of the gods... When the gods heard our pleas, they chose to seal away not only Ganon, but Hyrule itself... and so, with a torrential downpour of rains from the heavens... Our fair kingdom was soon buried beneath the waves, forgotten at the bottom of the ocean. Yet all was not lost. For the gods knew that to seal away the people with the kingdom would be to grant Ganon's wish for the destruction of the land. So, before the sealing of the kingdom, the gods chose those who would build a new country and commanded them to take refuge on the mountaintops. Those people were your ancestors. Hundreds of years have passed since then... So long as Ganondorf was not revived, Hyrule would remained below never waking from its slumber.

... Sounds like Noah's Ark =/ When Twilight Princess first came out I thought it would end with the land being flooded, giving birth to Wind Waker, but I was wrong. So I wonder, will there ever be a game that takes place during this great flood? I doubt it. But that'd be really cool. I also noticed how the Zelda games don't really flow. They take place in different time periods in the land of Hyrule but the storylines aren't connected. Yeah Zelda, Link, and Ganon all make appearances and they do refer to other games in the series like how the 'Hero of Time' was mentioned in Wind Waker, but none of the storylines of each game really affect the other games. This is true except for Ocarina, which tells of the first appearance of Ganondorf. But in other Zelda titles like in Twilight Princess, the Twilight Realm isn't seen in or affect any other Zelda game and its connection with Hyrule is destroyed at the end of the game. I kinda wish Nintendo would connect the Zelda games together more to illustrate the history of Hyrule. But I guess this wouldn't be good for those who haven't played older Zelda games.

By the way, whatever happened to Navi? Navi left Link in the Temple of Time and in Majora's Mask Link set off to find 'a friend', which most assumed to be Navi. But then he happend upon Termina and had to save the world from the moon and the evil Skull Kid. But after he saves Termina in Majora's Mask he sets off again and leaves... Then what? I wonder whatever happens to the 'Hero of Time' Link from OoT and MM... Did he ever find Navi?

Another thing: Zoras. I really like Zoras, they're much better than Gorons. But they only made their appearance in the older games like OoT with the exception of Twilight Princess. On the other hand Gorons made an appearance in Wind Waker [though they were wearing masks] and in Phantom Hourglass. It depresses me that Zoras aren't in Wind Waker or Phantom Hourglass. It makes me wonder why they didn't put Zoras in Hyrule after it became the Great Sea. Zoras live in the water so are they still there, only living deep under the waves and away from other races? Could they make a reappearance in later games and explain their disappearance? Gorons lived on the high mountains so it would make sense that after the flood and the mountain tops became islands the Gorons remained in Hyrule but what about the Zoras? The great flood could be one reason for the disappearance of the Zoras other than the reason that the developers just didn't think they were important enough to be in the games. They reason they could have put Zoras in Twilight Princess was just to make TP ressemble Ocarina.
