As I sat down sketching another discombobulated image, my wandering attention veered towards the obvious ... Hot Topic shoppers. The trendy, misguided group of metal fans who love, but do not understand what they're listening to.
The mentioned performer ? A Perfect Circle
The song in question ? Judith
It didn't take me long to realize what came up next. It was like another Dionne Warwick commercial - only this time no tarot card or lighting of incense required. The infamous lyric which every jaded atheist or non-practicing church goer sings along to:
"F--- your god, your lord, your christ."
These are not fans that actually read into the songwriter's interviews, nor do they dig deeper into its meaning. The song in general is about Maynard's resentment towards his ailing mother being raised as a Catholic - hence the name "Judith". Just that little bit separates true fans from the posers.
If you didn't know that, I suggest you go and read a few music magazines. They're not there just to hang pictures on the wall.
