Non-alcoholic Bar Hopping

Yes, there is, in fact, such a thing.

Saturday night I went out with a friend to go bar hopping (sans drinking), we found two places in Fairbanks that had live bands before I got a headache and asked him to take me home. (That was finally at 1am.)

The first place we stopped off at (after Richie gave a perusal of my outfit of choice and gave his voice of approval, like he had any say) was Big Daddy's Barbecue. The Dave Stevens band plays there 2 or 3 nights a week for about two hours. For being just two guys (one on drums, one on guitar), they do very well for themselves - very versatile with all their equipment. It was a nice, quiet, laid back atmosphere and they had a small dance floor (though I refused to dance). The majority of the crowd was way older than me, though, so it was a bit harder to relax because I felt totally out of place. sweatdrop After about two hours there (when the band packed up) we headed over to the Silver Spur.

At the Silver Spur I ordered a root beer and got made fun of by Richie for how I say the word "root" and we discovered that one of the band members (again, only two guys) was actually a contractor with the hospital we both work at. He's a painter - and plays like 6 instruments! The other member of his band plays somewhere around 16 he said. o.o They were incredible together, and I really enjoyed getting to hang out there. They had a pretty good sized dance floor, and there were almost always people up there having a good time. The only reason I didn't join in was because I have no idea how to line dance. xD; They had some pretty intense line dance routines! One of them was really fast moving and looked like loads of fun (even Richie, who doesn't like most country things liked it), but even though I picked up on the steps by watching them do it - there was no way I could keep up.

For the most part, I just sat and listened to the music and chatted with Richie, though he did ask me to dance with him once. I just didn't feel comfortable doing that since one of our co-workers was there and she gave me one of those Looks mothers give their kids when they're doing something wrong when she saw that I was with Richie. (He's 54, I'm 21 - we're really good friends, but everyone thinks the worst of it.)

All in all, it was a lot of fun and I'm glad I went. xD

And that's really all there was to it. I'm a rather boring person, I'm afraid. sweatdrop

I think that sounds like a remarkably pleasant evening myself. 3nodding
xD I know what you mean about the disapproving mother look though... I swear, there's some sort of weird cultural belief that guys and gals can't just be friends.
People keep thinking i'm goign out with one or another of my male friends, unless I sit down and explain to them that I have a boyfriend, and they're just my buddies. :/

heart linedancing is great fun! and you might be surprised if you go there again--when you join in you get really full of energy and can often make it through even really tiring manuevers. Plus, if you admit to people that you're new to it, the whole group will help you out, and keep you on track. 3nodding at least, that's been my experience.

Thanks for putting up a post about your bar-hop! biggrin it encourages me to try a non-alcoholic one as well! (Though I doubt my friends will hold to it xD... most of them like drinking, at least a bit)

It was a great evening, minus the headache, that is. xD

I hate that disapproving mother look - I get it all the time from my co-workers, because they say I look/sound so much like a little kid. >.> They especially all disapprove of me hanging out with Richie, not so much because he's a guy, but because of the massive age gap (and his reputation from his younger days).

The line dancing did look like a lotta fun! I was worried about keeping up mostly because I was starting to get a headache, and have a bit of a head cold right now. ^^; But, if I go again, I'll have to rope some of my friends to go with me and we will definitely have to try out the line dancing. During the really fast paced routine they had, one of the guys was shouting what to do as they did it, "Right kick! Left kick! STOMP STOMP STOMP!" xD But once the music sped up, it was pretty much just a free for all with only about four guys left standing - and dancing in time to the music. xD

Most of my friends refuse to let me even try liquor, so non-alcoholic bar hopping is about the only way to go for me right now. xD It was fun, though, to be able to carry on normal conversations with the person I was with, and still have fun at the bar. (Even though Richie did start to get a buzz, because he wound up drinking. xD)
