I think that Equilibrium is the underrated Matrix, similar scope, similar(though not quite as cool to be sure) action, and dark tones throughout. One leg up on Matrix that it has is that it has Christian Bale and Sean Bean, Matrix has niether, Christian Bale is definitely cooler than Keanu Reeves, sorry dude, you rock, but there's no comparison. The movie scares me with how good it is at creating a world without feeling, an unimaginable thing to me. Imagine TRULY hearing music for the first time, or caring for a friend or your own child, imagine having lived with and lost your wife, and never having truly LOVED her, and than realizing it later, realizing what you missed. Plus, any movie with Christian Bale pretty much just wearing cool black suits and wielding freakin awesome pistols and walking around kicking butt can't be all that bad, even if it didn't have a good script and plot, which Equilibrium did.
