My Little Star is Deaf
I look at like as a web of moments we've experienced, and because of my sister, silence does not make my uneasy; even if I am the only one left in an amusement park. Because of her, I know that there are secrets in everyone, EVEN beyond the recluse of parents and their children.
She is smart, but she cannot voice her opinion. She is always a brown-eyed bubbly girl in my heart. She enters my mind whenever I see a yellwo school bus, or whenever I feel the vibration of the beating steareo that she will never be allowed to hear. I see her in the constillation of stars, giving off the first twinkle at night. She is my little sister, and she is blind to sound.
She is the one that makes my mother's skin pale, haunting her thoughts as well; ascending like a song of panic that eventually forms into a single tear that mom never thinks I catch. It is her duty, as a mother, to worry and protect. To constantly wonder and protect. To constantly wonder 'What's gunna happen to my baby girl? Who will take care of her when I am gone? How will she survive?' She's the light of our eyes, and she's taught us so many things.
She is the reason why I've become an observationalist. I've learned more by simply watching and breathing than I have by talking. Its just another form of communication, only...without sound. I've become a poet beacuse of her. A writer. More words flow to me while I look at in bright eyes. I see more than just her hair, her pretty face, her form. I've learned the thoughts of a girl's hands like a warm breeze when she signs. She's taught me how very silent life can be. When I look at her, I see my little sister; My Little Star. I see a person with thoughts of her own, just like everyone else. Just like you, and just like me.
