So it finally happened I watched the Stargate: Atlantis episode where one of my favourite character dies. crying

Just in case there are still a lucky few who a.) read my ramblings and 2.) actually watch Atlantis and haven't seen the said episode yet, I won't spoil it for you.

Poor Carson Beckett, why oh why PTBs of Atlantis, why did you kill off my lovely little Scotsman?

I wonder if it was an actors choice or did the production team decide to shake things up a little. They readily admit that no one is safe on the show. Which I don't mind so much when they're killing off the little people, but not when its one of the bigger characters!

As soon as I saw it had been written by Gero I knew we were in trouble. Martin Gero has a reputation in the show for killing people off in his stories, the more the merrier. Something he happily admits to in the commentaries.

Don't you love DVD commentaries (she says as she casually slides into another topic), I do.

From a writer's POV its great to hear the professional writers talk about their process and how they go about writing the scripts. It surprises me how many times they actually are given the basic plot idea and then have to go off and write a script around it. I don't know if that would end up being harder or easier than coming up with something from scratch yourself. Harder perhaps if you just couldn't string together a script from a few ideas. I am also interested in how many times they work together, one writer will write himself into a corner and then workshops it with the others until he can write himself back out again.

Listening to the directors is interesting too, although I am not as interested in that as much, still it is all part of the process. And the actors! They are just plain insane!
