In the eyes of an Angel
So, ya'll, I'm back!

yay!

i will say, it was a tiring week. I've been getting up at 6 am and not getting to bed until 10 or 11. gah~ Thats not supposed to happen in the summer time

Even so.

I was in Biloxi, Mississippi helping out for Hurricane Katrinia. Biloxi was the part of the coast that got the biggest hit of the hurricane and had the most damage done

It's been three years, so all debri and such were picked up. But there is still alot of people homeless, jobless, hungry, sick, and so much more and needed help.

It was my job to give them a hand.

I spent Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and part of Friday working on housing, mainly framework. Wendsday was a different story, I worked in a Soup Kitchen that day.

Thats what i'm going to talk about, the soup kitchen. (i can talk about the frame working later)

Basically, I spent the morning preparing packed lunches (a sandwich and some snack cookies) for the men and women coming in after they finished eating. They could take it along for there dinner
They could come through the lines as many times as they liked and some did

It was heartbreaking experience.
So many had this broken look in there eyes, and it was hard to look at them.
I was severing food, but still, it was difficult to truly look at them, and not get over emotional.
Now, there were some who were upbeat and postive, maybe having a better time then others. Getting their lives back in order and having more hopes.
Some were disabled or sick, one man looked as if he were suffering from Parkinson's disease. and mind you, many could not get any sort of medical help or correct treatment if they could get to a volunteering clinic, because they wouldn't have any money.

But the soup kitchen was good, it gave the people shelter from the blistering hot sun (and i mean blistering, it was 97 degrees down there, and i was working in it on job sights) and food for the day. So they could keep moving and keep surviving day to day.

Working, Monday i installed insulation on the bottom of a almost finished house. I was laying in the mud and muck on my back, getting fiber glass shreds all over me. ( i still have bumps from where it slipped through my clothes) an dthen i did a bunch of paint work.
Tuesday i did framework on a house, standing on a ladder and nailing boards down.
lol~ there was guy below me singing in a silly german accent german songs.
it was funny~ i was cracking up as he did female parts to the songs.
(The guy below, he was part of a group i was working with called Americops, btw)
Thursday~i measured and labled plywood to be put up on the roof. all 49 sheets. gah~
Friday~ we spent part of the day hauling sheets to the top of the roof, then we left to take showers, pack up and drive home

thats my week in a nutshell

oh~ Wednsday, we got to go to the HardRock Cafe/Casino (we only went to the cafe part, um~ church group, duh~ XD) the Thursday we got take a sailboat cruise out on the bay, it was so pretty cuz it was at night and the moon was full.

overall, it was good experience for me, i think~
