"Thorn Thorn Thorn Thorn Thorn." Mimim whined repeatedly. Thorn sighed, stopping and spinning to face Mimim.
"Yes, Mimim?" He said calmly, closing his eyes. It took him a moment to unclench his fists.
Mimim scruntched his nose. "I smell blood." He muttered. "A lot."
Thorn opened his eyes and glanced around, not seeing anything. "I don't see town yet. How can you smell that far off?"
"It's actually not that far..." He mumbled, scratching his head.
"Hello there..." A feminine voice purred. Thorn gasped and froze, a tall woman leaning over his shoulder. "What're you two doing way out here?" She whispered into Thorn's ear, staring directly at Mimim.
"We're off to see the masacre!" Mimim sang, smiling brightly at the voice. "Is it still going on?"
The woman snapped her head back and let out a booming cackle before wrapping her arms around Thorn's neck from behind, putting her cheek to his. Thorn shuddered. Her skin is like ice... "Oh, yes. It's still happening all right. But you better hurry," She stifled a giggled, "or you might miss all the fun!" She cackled once more before dancing off, two more women suddenly at her side.
Thorn shuddered again, looking at Mimim. "It kinda makes me wanna go back home..." He muttered, rubbing his neck.
"She smelt funny." Mimim scrunched his nose up again, squinting at the ground.
Thorn coughed. "Let's uh.. get going." Mimim shrugged as they continued to walk. I think she smelt great. Huh. Thorn thought, awkwardly, as he ambled along, staring at his feet. So weird.
Mimim suddenly stopped. Thorn looked questioningly at him. "What's wrong?" "The smell... It's just so... strong.. Gross." Mimim covered his nose with both hands, shutting his eyes.
"Do you want to wait here?" Thorn offered, slowly.
"No, I'll be fine. " He said nasaly, walking with both hands over his nose. Thorn coughed to cover up a chuckle and continued to walk along with Mimim.
"I think it's just over this..." Thorn froze as a woman screamed. He stared at the scene in front of him.
There were humans running, screaming, everywhere. Blood. White figures dashing almost invisibly around the town. The gate had been blown through, making everything bisible from here.
His heartbeat sped up as a blurred figure froze to stare at them. His menacing red eyes glowed dangerously against his snow white skin. He was shirtless and wore blue shorts, torn at his knees. Scraggly blue hair fell over his face. A wide smile was suddenly spread as he eyed the travelers.
Mimim sank to the ground, growling. The man stared at the dog, several expressions crossing his face. He finally grinned, his fangs visible even from a distance.
"Mimim we have to go." Thorn whispered, the growling dog not budging. "Now."
Mimi barked. The man suddenly leapt at them, snarling ferouciously. Thorn spotted another, taller man by the gate. "Help!" He screamed and put his arms over him. He heard another snarl, more terrifying than the first.
Then everything seemed quiet.
"Thorn, are you okay?" Mimim whispered, back in his human form. Thorn lay on the ground, groaning as he struggled to sit up.
"What just happened?" He asked hoarsely as he managed to roll onto his side and prop himself up. He looked up to see three people, one on the ground.
"One of my bretheren decided to wander off on his own. He has paid the price." A calm, soothing voice came from a few feet away. Thorn squinted to see that this person was Yumi. Thorn scrambled to his feet, staring wide-eyed at the tall man, whose eyes were just as red as the other man's.
"'Bretheren'? What are you talking about?" He whispered, knowing exactly what he meant but thinking to buy some time. He glanced at the man on the ground. He looked like he was sleeping. "Is he asleep?"
Yumi let out a deep laugh, tilting his head back. It reminded Thorn of the woman earlier. "We do not sleep, dear boy. And I must say, you are rather lucky to have had your friend here today, or you might not have been, tomorrow." He smiled cooly, and Thorn felt a sudden pang of jealously.
Yumi was, too, shirtless, his muscular body now unhidden by the usual think clothing he chose to wear. "It's rude to stare, young sir." Thorn jumped as Yumi spoke, a playful smile on his face.
"S-sorry.. Wait. What are you doing here?" He asked, staring at the scene behind the man. There was no more screaming. But there was blood, he noted with a shudder.
"I decided to take my clan out for an afternoon meal, but you couldn't imagine how empty these people are."
"No, I couldn't."
"What brings you here?"
"Your kind. You can't do this here, anywhere." Thorn scowled up at Yumi. Yumi frowned for a split second before smiling widely.
"Is it wrong to eat?"
"Like this, yes. It is."
"We must feed, or we will take ourselves upon every passerby."
"It's not right."
"It it wrong," Yumi frowned, glaring now at Thorn, "to hunt? Is that not what you do? We do not kill the innocent. We do not kill the lonesome. We feed when we absolutely have to, while you humans run and hunt animals as you please, thinking nothing of it."
"But these are people. They have children!"
"And the smaller creatures do not? You hunt for sport. Would you like us to do the same?" Thorn froze, staring into Yumi's piercing red eyes with doubt. Would he really? "Exactly. We feed on the evil and cruel. As you will notice, the children are completely unscathed..." He spoke hesitantly, staring into space for a moment.
Thorn glanced at Mimim, was staring through his goggles up at Yumi.
"Maybe not completely." Yumi concluded, looking back to Thorn, who froze up, his heart racing. "Does that make you nervous?" Yumi grinned.
A woman suddenly appeared behind Yumi, her eyes darting around nervously. "Two are dead and four are missing. She whispered, obviously meaning for Mimim and Thorn to hear.
Yumi didn't look happy as he spoke. "Find then. Do not let them get to the next village." "I hear the boy is there..." "Get as many as you can back here. They are not being punished." He added at the end, to her disliking. But she nodded and disappeared.
Everything was quiet.
Yumi smiled. "Mimim.." He said lightly, smiling wide at the boy, who grinned back. He kneeled, not touching the ground.
