"Wake up Addy. It's time for school!" Meet Adam Reighlynn, my foster father.
"Uhnnn 5 minutes..." I burrowed under my covers, trying to block out Adam and the cool October morning.
"Addy!" If he says my name one more time, I will not be held responsible for my actions.
"Adele Rae!" Christina on the other hand, scares the crap out of me, so I'll be getting up now.

"What's with the long face Birdy?" Birdy is a nickname my mom gave to me... My real mom. Emele is the only person on the planet that is allowed to call me that.
"I'm just so tired. All the magic I have to use... Just so I don't get sick... or attacked." I yawned, shivering slightly at the second thought.
"Oh Birdy," Emele wrapped her arm around my shoulder as we walked to class. "Why risk it? Why don't you just stay with your family here? They aren't called the Protectors for nothing, you know."
"I dunno..." I shrugged out of her embrace. "None of them were exactly jumping up and down when mom left." I ignored the pang of hurt that came with the mention of my mother. "They don't want to risk they're family's lives for mine. The Royal Guard is really cracking down on us..."
"Well, just promise me you'll be very careful. Maybe you can spend the weekend at my place, let your guard down a little, we have loads of junk food that need to be eaten!" Her smile and laughing eyes were hard to resist. I nodded, and we continued on our way towards our first class.
"Oh!" Emele grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.
"If this has to do with the lunch supervisor and the janitor having and affair, I already know!" Emele had her slightly unnatural ways of finding out your deepest darkest secret.
"Did you hear about the royal family?!" she shrieked in a whisper. I groaned. Mentally, of course.
"No... What's up with our Royal Stuffinesses?" Emele gave me her 'Angry Look' (capitals are intended. It's justthat scary!) It was worse than Christina's 'The Look'.
"Benny," She started, but I saw where the conversation was going and cut her off.
"Ugh!" I shuddered. "Don't call him that! You don't know him!" I got the 'Angry Look' again. She ignored my rude interruption, and continued, much to my irritation.
"He's coming-" This time, she was cut off by the warning bell, but I got the message. The Prince... The Prince of Cilentre was coming to our school. What if he... recognizes me? I sort of stick out like a sore thumb... but... maybe... there's a chance...
"Addy," Emele called to me, already in the class room. "Class is going to start, and I don't think you want to be late... again." she smirked. I huffed and walked into the classroom just as the door slammed shut.
"Thank you for joining us, Miss Paulsen." Ms. Porter chimed from her spot on her step ladder (Ms. Porter is a dwarf. Very short. So short in fact, that she makes me look tall).
"You're welcome," I murmured absently as I walked to my spot in between Emele and Brayden, an Elf. He patted the seat be side him excitedly.
"Adele, darling, I've been so desolate without you..." I sat down, smiling at his theatrics. "Where have you been all my life?" He clutched my shoulders, and brought my face close to his, so I could clearly see his light blue eyes water.
"That doesn't matter!" I grabbed his shoulders too, smiling a little at the snickers we were getting. "What matters is that we're together now!"
"All right you two," Ms. Porter said, fighting a smile. "You can continue your little love fest after class." Brayden gave her a big smile, turned to me, and hugged me.
"Until them, my love," He said dramatically, sweeping his long blond hair behind his shoulders. The whole class laughed and clapped, until Ms. Porter rapped her wand on her stand and (quite mirthfully, might I add) instructed us to take out our Spell Books.
Before she could explain today's assignment, there was a knock on the door. Both Emele and Brayden squeaked and grabbed my arm. I looked disgustedly at Brayden.
"You too?" He looked sheepishly back.
"You're still my favorite." He squeezed my arm, smiled his award winning (literally) smile, and turned attentively to the door. Ms. Porter grumbled, and waved her wand at the door, with a light "Come in!".
Two Royal Guards stepped in.
"May we present, Benjamin Fitzroy, Crown Prince of Clintre!" Sweet Grace! These people were LOUD!
One of them turned to open the door wider, and a shadowy figure filled the door way. Oh boy... I think Emele just fainted. I leaned on my desk, ignoring Brayden's excited whispers, and looked around Emele.
"Jason!" I hissed. The light demon on the other side of Emele looked up. Like most demons, he had ruby red eyes, and unlike most demons, he had mud brown hair. (He dyes it. His roots are totally platinum blond).
"Yeah?" He asked, steadying Emele, who, no joke, might suffer a stroke.
"Make sure Emele doesn't," I stared at her, her eyes were opened wide and if she stared any harder at the Prince, he would catch on fire. "Act like... Emele..." He laughed.
"Can do, Miss Adele." Demons are also very polite. Everyone was either a Miss or a Mister. I turned my attention to the door.
"What is he doing?" I heard Emele hiss. I heard Jason murmuring something to her.
"He looks nervous." I smiled wickedly. Brayden abruptly snapped his head around to face me.
"Adele..." He followed my gaze.
"Oh, don't worry Brayden," I said, directing energy towards my fingers.
"Adele," Brayden said again, this time as a warning.
"Oh chill." I narrowed my eyes and concentrated on the pacing figure of the Prince.
"C'mon," I focused on him. "Don't be afraid," I murmured. I sneakily curled my fingers in a beckoning motion.
All at once, the Prince came flying in the class room, one of his guards cast a counter spell, and he fell flat on his face. I sat in my seat, choking down laughter as everyone else gasped in horror.
"Crown Prince!" His head snapped up, and I was momentarily distracted by his gaze. Dark brown, almost black eyes stared accusingly into mine. I felt myself flush, and I dropped my gaze to my hands.
