I decided to get a bit more ok a lot more personal and tell my story about being put up for adoption and my eventual reunion with my birth father and siblings.
I was born in North Carolina. I was given up for adoption as soon as I was born. But I was born with a disability so I had to be in a foster home for the first six months and in and out of the hospital getting surgeries. Then I was finally allowed to be adopted and I was by a wonderful set of parents.
Being adopted does alot to a person and does different things to different people. For me it has been both very positive things and some negative things. Also each person has to deal with it and the emotions and feelings that come with it in their own way. I know for me having the support I did and still have has help a ton.
One of the positive things that has come out of it is I am and always have been a very independant person. I have it in me I need to fight for myself not in a physical way but I just need to make sure what I need is met. I like to try my best to take care of things I need myself. Another positive thing is I am very sensitive, I am actually able to feel what others feel and not just listen to their hurt. Which helps me be able to be there for my friends on a deeper level. One not so positive thing that came out of it is I have dealt with depression for most of my live. Feeling less worthy or a burden on people. Not knowing what the word Love actually means and not sure of what the feeling feels like. I know in my head that people love me I just dont quite know what that means.
So now Im gonna move on to the reunion part. Let me first say I am so very grateful that I was able to be reunited with my birth family I know it isnt very common for it to happen so I am very grateful to be one of the few. So let me start out by saying as a highschooler and college student I had a fascination of talk shows on tv and always wanted to be on one. So I wrote every single talk show that was on tv and never heard back from any of them. So one day I was watching tv and a new talk show came on the Tyra Banks show (Victoria Secret Model) so of course I wrote into her. To make a long story short Tyra called me personally and asked me to be on her show but she told me it was an inspirational woman show. So I went on the show got to do all the "star" stuff. And as a Christmas suprise she decided to reunite me with my birth father and sister and twin brothers.
After being on the show my birth family and I went out to dinner and I found out that my birth mother told her side of the family that I died at birth so they never even knew I actually was still very much alive. Also my birth father is hispanic and at the time I was born didnt speak alot of english and my birth mother was caucasian and spoke complete english, so when I was born my birth mother told my birth father he needed to sign medical release forms for me and of course he did right away and then he went back the next day to visit me and they said he couldnt because he had given me up for adoption (the papers my mother said were medical release forms were adoption papers.)
So that is my story of being put up for adoption and being reunited with my birth family. I by the way stay in contact still with my birth family. I have gone to their house five times now and my sister has come to my house. It truly was a blessing in disguise to be given up for adoption.
