The Demon's Halo
Chapter 9
I sat beside Duke. As my stomach grumbled, I was begining to wonder what roast phoenix wound taste like.
"Duke! Lady Dawn! Retreat to the back of the cave at once!" Maisha screamed suddenly. My heart pounded at the sudden order as I saw outside a cloud of demons flying towards us. I grabbed Duke's hand and we ran to the back of the cave, as far as we could go.
Maisha became a phoenix and attacked the on coming demons.
Fire sprayed from her mouth and onto the dark cloud of demons.
Maisha was doing a good job of keeping them away from the cave entrance, until she got hit hard in the head and collapsed to the ground 30 feet down.
"Maisha!" I gasped. There were still 10 demons, and they were now at the entrance of the cave. My heart pounded as one stepped forward.
It was Prise!

"Damu! Look!" Shuja snapped at Damu as they reached the cave.
Damu gasped and saw what Shuja pointed out.
"Maisha!" He whispered and flew faster. Shuja and Kirai on his tail.
"Damu!!!" Came a scream from inside the cave.
"Dawn!" He screamed.

The demon Prise was over me now, he grabbed my neck and began squeezing. I could'nt breathe. I heard small cracks.
Suddenly, Prise was knocked off me and I was in Damu's arms.
Duke was with some angel i didn't recognize.
"You alright Dawn?" Damu whispered looking at my neck.
"I....can breathe now......" I whispered, gasping for air.
Damu kissed my forehead and put me down.
Then he attacked the nearest demon.
As I caught my breathe, I noticed there was an angel there that looked very familiar....... long purplish-black hair and orange eyes.......
I gasped suddenly.
"Kirai?! How!? She died! And she was a demon!" I thought.
After enough blood was shed, the demons retreated.
Prise looked over at me with a scowl before Damu punched him out of the cave.
Duke was in shock.
I was too, as I looked at Kirai.
"Kirai?...." I whispered.
She looked at me and smiled.
"But...I saw those demons.... ripping you up..... How?"
"It's a long story Dawn..... One we can't talk about now. Those demons will me back, they only went to retrieve more troops." Kirai sighed.
Damu walked over to the cave entrance.
"Maisha's gone. That blow to the head killed her. Along with the fall." Damu sighed. "Shuja.... Can you carry Duke over there? I need to carry Dawn. We have to leave here before the demons return."
"Was that Prise? The demon we have to save?" Shuja asked.
"Yes. If we can." Damu said and walked over to me. He picked me up.
"It might be our only chance Damu." Kirai whispered.
"I know." He whispered and unfurled his two-tone wings.
I hugged Damu tightly as he flew.
"Don't worry about anything Dawn. I'll keep you safe, and I'll get Prise back....... Don't worry. It'll be ok." Damu soothed me.
But, I wasn't sure, I thought I heard a sound of sadness in his voice.
"Damu?" I whispered looking up at him. His eyes were closed and he said nothing. I looked over at Shuja and Kirai.
They both looked as if they lost a family member.
"What's going on?" I thought.
Damu brought Duke and me to another cave, this one behind a waterfall.
"Shuja, you stay and watch them with Kirai. I got to go." Damu said putting me down.
"You're not going alone Damu! I won't let you!" Kirai gasped.
"Kirai.... you know what I have to do. You won't want to see that." Damu said. My heart stopped as I listened.
"I don't care! I love you Damu, and I'm coming!" Kirai began crying.
Damu sighed deeply.
"As you wish....." then he looked at me.
"Do what Shuja tells you, alright Dawn?"
I nodded slowly. He walked over to me and kissed me on the cheek.
"Good-bye Dawn." He whispered, a tear rolling down his cheek.
Suddenly it clicked.
"Wait! Damu! You can't!" I screamed standing up. Shuja grabbed my shoulders to hold me back. "No! He can't go! he can't do it!" I began crying and struggling against Shuja.
Damu looked at me.
"You want Prise back right?" Damu asked.
"Yes, but I don't want to loose you because of it!!!" I snapped.
"You can't love two people Dawn....... I know, you love Prise more then me. I have to do this. I'm going to do this. I love you Dawn....." Damu said.
"No! You can't! Damu!!!" I screamed and wretched myself free of Shuja's grasp, but Kirai and Damu were already gone.
