This is a story I wrote, passed down to my best friends
Affinity Prologue
--------------------------------------------------------
It was about Twilight when I saw the enemy cross buildingto building, thinking out loud how my brother and I would catch the fellow, it was only a matter of time before the net victim. It was 10 p.m and about an hour sharp, the enemy will have it's prey on humans, that's if my brother and I kill it beforehand.
My brother Carlisle jumped infront of me and swung his dagger behind my back, I quickly ducked and spinned, kicking the enem with my feet. "Mallory!" he called at me.
I sprung out my pistol from my trench coat's pocket, shooting a couple times as trying to strike it's heart, however, we couldn't get a good glimpse of what the identity of the enemy was, it was dark now, and I couldn't see the area around me, I became only a bit frightened,breathing heavily, Carlisle stood at my side as we both new it wasn't wiseto be alone at this time, it was a bit chilly and the gibbous moon shone in the dark sky. Filled with darkclouds, black crows hawks flew by outrageously, not a sound was heard.
Carlisle and I began hearing tapping noises as he would turn his back to mine, bothof ushad our pistolsin both hands, aiming and ready to pull the trigger.
Carlisle than whispered to himself and I couldn't well make out the words except 1....2.....3..,I lift my index finger up to the shades I wore over my eyes, clicking the button on the right side. A small telescope developed in my shades and I was able to look in the dark. "Agh! Carlisle beneath us!" I found, we jumped back as our enemy dug our from underground. The creature stood 7 feet tall and it had the skin of a reptile, and of course, no hair.
"Mallory, stay guard and out of the way, when I say shoot, you aim your gun and shoot!" Carlisle called out, I nod my head in agreenment.
Thetail of the creature was incredibly long, about 34.5 inches wide, I blinked twice before taking multiple steps backwards. I tookd my shades off and folded them, placing them back into my pocket.
Carlisle on the other hand, kept his aim and waited for a perfect shoot, however, this creature was quick and traveled circling around us tremendously, starring at us, it was to the point we were back to back onceagain.
I shot at the creature and I felt my brother yell. "Mallory, you idiot!" he yelled angrily, the creature had began to go crazy, swinging it's tail at me, unfortunately, Carlisle pushed me aside, and instead of my injury, Carlisle was injured terribly by the hit of the tail, the creature died, turning into ashes moments later.
I turned to looked at the creature as it dispatched, but when I took eyes back upon my brother, he was gone. He was no where to be seen. "CARLISLE!" I cried out, as it was the last I have said.

Chapter One
===============
4 years has passed as we looked upon an old cemetary, a woman, brown hair and had tight curls, she woredark make-up and a black gown with a veil to the cover of her face, she over-looked the grave. She sighed quietly and turned around, walking to exit as she came upon a man older than she.
It was about late 1900s, San Lee Souther California. The man had given her a scare, shivers went down her spine and you could see goosebumpsamong her pale white skin. "You smell like blueberries." the man told her, she crossed her arms across her chest. "Well, you smell like an oragutan, why are you following me?" She asked rather curious, he stepped back with a frown.
"I'm surprised you've been keeping eye on me, Mallory Pike." With this, Mallory turned back another direction, she eyed him again. "Why don't you come back into business?" he asked, taking a few steps closer to Mallory, she growl andnearly snapped. "I HAVE MY REASON!" Mallory grumbled a 'jerk' under her breath and took off, walkingin a quick pace.
"Is it him? For thereason you quit?" heasked, she tapped her bottomlip with her right pointerfinger. "Your name is Darl Cunnigham." Mallory said, her left handonher hips, he smiled with amuse andinterest.
"So you haven't really changed, your still reading people." "What is it you want from me?" "For you to return to business." "No happening." Mallory argued, walking on as she left Darl standing n thought, he watched her leave with a laugh. "You will come into business." was all he said, as the wind started to pick up lightly, old fallen tree leaves ruffled together as the wind carried them, it was about early fall in September. A raccoon was sitting on the lid of a trash can, trying to pry it off the can, however, failed to do so.

Chapter One ============
The shower didn't last nearly as long as I hoped it would, though Even taking the time to blow-dry my hair, I was soon out of the things to do in the bathroom. Wrapped in a towel, I crossed back to my room. I dressed slowly in my most comfy sweats and then made my bed - something I never did. I couldn't put it off any longer, I went to my desk and switched on the computer.
I typed up the word 'vampire' in the Google search bar and it took an infuriatingly long time, of course. When the results came up, there was a lot to shift through, everything from movies and TV shows to role-playing games, underground metal, and Gothic cosmetic companies. Then I found a promising site, Vampires A-Z.
I waited impatiently for it to load, quickly clicking closed each ad that flashed the screen. Finally, the screen was finished, simple white background with black text, academic-looking. Two quotes greeted me on the home page. "Throughout the vast shadowy world of ghosts and demons there is no figure so terrible, no figure so dreaded and abhorred, yet night with such fearful fascination, as the vampire, who is himself neither ghost or demon, but yet who partakes the dark natures and possesses the mysterious and terrible qualities of both." I read lightly to myself and then the writer . . . "Reverend Montague Summers." I blinked and continued on with interest.
"If there is in this world a well attested account, it is that of the vampires. Nothing is lacking; official reports, affidavits of well-known people, of surgeons, of priests, of magistrates; the judicial proof is most complete. And with all that, who is there who believes in vampires!?"
I read, leaning back into my chair, looking at the computer screen. The rest of the site was an alphabetized listing of all the different myths of vampires held throughout the world. The first I clicked on, the Danag, was a Filipino vampire supposedly responsible for planting taro on the islands long ago. The myth continued that the Danag worked with humans for many years, but the partnership ended one day when a Woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood. I read carefully through the descriptions, looking for anything that sounded familiar, let alone plausible. It seemed that most vampire myths centered around beautiful women as demons and children as victims; they also seemed like constructs created to explain away the high mortality rates for young children and give men an excuse for infidelity. Many of the stories involved bodiless spirits and warring against improper burials. Only three entries really caught my attention, the Romanian Varacolaci, a powerful undead being who could appear as a beautiful, pale-skinned human, the Slovak Nelapsi, a creature so strong and fast it could massacre an entire village in the single hour after midnight, and one other, the Stregoni benefici.
I clicked out of the window and shut down the computer, I stood from my wooden desk chair and stretched with a yawn.
"You didn't lock the door to your house." spoke Darl whom stood at the entrance of her bedroom door, I spinned to face him, leaning back on the desk, my right hand over my chest, panting as nearly in fright. Darl stood there, wearing khaki dress pants and a coat, a white tucked in blouse and a simple, black and white checkered tile.
"It doesn't give you a right to march right into my home without permission." I say, simply dusting myself off, I returned my gaze upon him. "Mallory, I-" "I know what you want, but I refuse to return." I argued, turning my back on him, giving a sign that I wanted him to leave, I pulled my pistol from the desk drawer and loaded it with a lock. I turned and shot, hitting the wall beside him. "I promise I won't miss the next time." I replied with anger in my tone, for Darl knew it wasn't a joke. "Alright then." I watched Darl exit my room and I followed him to make sure he left, I closed and locked the door.

Chapter Three ============
I intuitively knew and sensed he did, too, that tomorrow would be pivotal. The relationship between my brother Carlisle and I couldn't continue to balance, as it did, on the point of a knife. We would fall off one edge or the other, depending entirely upon Carlisle's decision, or his instincts. My decision was made, made before I'd ever consciously chosen, and I was committed to seeing it through, Because there was nothing more terrifying to me, more excruciating than the thought of turning away from him. It was an impossibility.
I went into the kitchen and grabbed a grape soda from the refrigerator. "That is the last thing i want to see." I knocked down Carlisle's picture and cried. "Why hasn't he come!?" Mallory slam papers onto the floor, flung books at the wall, slamming her door closed.
The phone rang and I stared at the telephone, sniffing as I wipe my tearing eyes, I picked up the phone and cheered up before answering. "Mallory speaking . ." I said, waiting a reply. "I have been watching you, Mallory Pike," the voice was dark and you could hear breathing from the phone line. "Who are you?" I hesitated, as almost shaking. "Hello?" the call had been dropped already, upon hearing this, I became very curious. I grabbed my halter and my pistols.
"This isn't funny!" I yelled angrily in tears, dropping my pistol. I fell to my knees. "Carlisle . . ." I used the back of my right hand to wipe the streaming tears away, picking up Carlisle's picture, setting it back on my desk-top.
