Chapter Five

Dedicated to Incomplete_Sketch

"Tailor isn't here." The boy said. He hadn't looked at us as we entered the building. He only had eyes for a sheet of paper he was reading. He looked around my age with sandy blond hair.

"When will he be back?" Forrest asked, starring at the boy with a face blank as stone.

"Don't know, he's off working for the queen. Could be gone days, weeks, months. I really can't say. What do you need him for, I might be able to help." He looked up and gasped, looking straight at me. "You . . . You . . . You're dead. How, what?!" Forrest grabbed my hand and ran out the door, as we left I heard the boy's voice behind me, "Am- Wait!"

As we ran through the town my hand slowly slipped from Forrest's. For some reason I couldn't keep up. He held tighter every time I almost let go. The problem was with him leading, I had time to think. I was dead? What happened to me? Why were we running? Why didn't we ask the boy about me? It's like Forrest didn't want me to know . . .

We ran through a particular large group of people that were tightly knit together. Forrest didn't stop and my hand slipped from his . . .

I stopped not trying to catch up. As I tried to regain my breath I saw a little girl sitting on the side of the road holding some dolls, all alone. There were some girls off to the side all standing together in a circle, holding dolls. I couldn't hear their conversations but I saw the looks, glances, and smiles thrown at the lone girl. I understood them too, they were laughing at her. I wanted to go to her, tell her to not listen to them and that all they were were jerks, but Forrest found me again and once again grabbed my hand and ran.

"But the little girl!" I cried to him, "We need to help her!" He stopped and stared at me.

"There was no little girl." he said. This time he didn't run, just walked. We were near the edge of town anyway. Finally we entered the trees and Forrest talked. "What do you remember?" He asked.

"Nothing." I said truthfully.

"What little girl did you see? What were you talking about?" He asked in a very serious voice.

I looked down, "She was sitting by the edge of the road, alone while other girls stood close by laughing at her." I looked up, tears in my eyes for a reason I didn't know. "She needed to be saved from a cruel world that would crush her. She . . . she . . ." I stopped. Forrest had a strange look on his face. Maybe he was thinking. He slowly and awkwardly put his arm around me, my tears slowed as we walked.

I now sat with Forrest, Steffen, and Rose. Forrest had told them what had happened and had me tell them what I had seen. There was a shocked silence once we were done. I stood up, a numbness I hadn't felt before now spreading through me. I walked outside to the garden. I faintly heard Forrest and Stephan arguing. The only thing I could pick out was, "She just found out that she's dead. How's she supposed to feel?" I couldn't figure out who said it though.

I looked at the forest. I could leave. I've brought chaos to their world of peace. I looked at Forrest's and Rose's house. How could I have brought this upon them? Slowly I walked to the edge of their garden and beyond, never noticing the evil afoot that was trying to lure me away.

Sasha

She had gotten away. That scoundrel! Who knew she could run? Of course my dear Eric was mad with me. Said I had distracted him so that she could get away. I denied it of course. Me, betray my beloved Eric? It's inconceivable! After she had gotten away from us Eric came up with another brilliant plan. It was the same as before, but if we spread rumours that she's dead then no one would look for her and it would be easier for us to catch her. Of course she would hear them and have to hide, or change her name, but we would find her. My Eric would find her.

Months had gone by and we hadn't found her. I didn't worry though, she wasn't that smart, pretty, nor inventive. We would find her. Just when Eric was just about at the end of his wits, I saw her. She was with some boy my age and they were heading somewhere. I got Eric the second I saw them. We searched the town looking for them, when finally we saw them, this time running like there was no tomorrow. We followed them. The crowd was thick enough that they didn't notice. They were separated for a bit, we watched that girl Amanda as she paused looking at something that seemed to not be there, the crowd was too thick to look at anything. The boy came back and they ran again. We followed and the words they said were lost in the crowd.

We were near the edge of town now where we had to hide more. They were walking now. They walked straight into the trees. Eric told me to wait as he followed. I obeyed of course. He was gone for what seemed like forever, but any moment away from my Eric seemed like eternity. He returned with a gleam in his eye and told me to follow. I did.

He led me through the trees until we reached a very nicely camouflaged house. He lead me to the back right behind a beautiful garden and we waited. Shortly that wretched girl came out and Eric used some expert techniques to make her come towards us. She did and with a giant rock he had picked up, my Eric knocked that girl out. Our plan was set in motion.

Enia

I woke up to a headache and to two faces I recognized, surprisingly. "Aah, just kill me now." I whispered to Sasha and Eric. I remembered only bits and pieces of them. I remembered vaguely the chase and their plan.

"Why would we want to kill you?" Eric said, his voice sent shivers down my back.

"Because," I said slowly as I sat up, "I don't have what you want."

The silence was deadly.

Suddenly Eric's face was right in front of mine, "What?" He hissed.

Sasha's voice was louder, and shrill. "What! You don't have the necklace?"

"What necklace?" I asked. She answered before Eric could stop her.

"Your chain, with Prince Steffen's ring on it. Your engagement ring!" She nearly shouted.

"I'm engaged to Prin-." My eyes widened and the blood fell from my face. "Dang it." I muttered.
