Walking, Walking, And Fuming |

I had to wake up kinda early, and that was difficult, since I had gone to bed at like 2 in the morning. This was the annual Walk for Diabetes. You participate by walking 1, 2, or 3 miles, and it helps money to raise for Diabetes research. I was going by myself this year, since of course my dad can't walk that much, and Kelly wanted to stay with my dad today, plus there was the concept of Sophia. I got there like 20 minutes late, but it wasn't that big of a deal, I guess they expect it. It was being held at the UNLV McDermott Complex this year, instead of Wet N' Wild, since of course they closed it down last year. I went to the registration desk, to get my fillout information, even though I had registered online yesterday. But they make you sign this waiver stuff and all that. While I was waiting in line though, I heard someone call out my name. I turned, cause of course, who else around here is gonna be mistaken for me? It was a girl from my English class, Nadia. I remembered her instantly, but she was sitting with some people I couldn't make out. She was there as part of Key Club, and because she lives nearby. Heather was there, another girl from English, and Melissa, who I don't know too well but recognized. I sat with them, and had breakfast, which is always cool at these walks. Companies like Starbucks and Einstein Bros. Bagels cater for breakfast and lunch, plus it's free, so that was more than enough to get me ready to walk.
In the process of sitting down, though, I grabbed the seat of my chair to pull it closer to the table. It was one of those foldout chairs, and hadn't been put all the way down, and clamped on my middle finger, slicing off a good chunk of the skin. So I ended up sitting there, holding a napkin to my bleeding finger, trying to spread cream cheese onto half a bagel, and trying to pour half and half into a cup. Needless to say this was a not a great start to the day. It turned out ok though, because as we were lining up, Nadia came over and handed me a band-aid. One of the booths that come to sponsor and advertise was handing out mini first-aid baggies, and they came with like band-aids and antiseptic cloths. So I nursed my poor widdle finger, and we were off. By then, another member from Key Club had arrived, Leah, a girl from my Advanced Website Science class. She turned out to be the president of Key Club, and this was some event they were all attending to earn points. So I sort of ended up becoming a sort of Unofficial Member, since I was the only one there because I had gone without an alterior motive.
I was going for 3 miles, but the girls were unsure. It was a nice walk, since we were in the UNLV campus, we basically took a tour of the whole place. This one mascot from some Las Vegas hockey team was there. He/She/It? was called "The Duke" but it looked like a giant yellow and green booger in a jersey. It was kinda creepy, and scared the s**t out of me and Nadia, since it came right behind us and pushed between us. Big furry arm pushes you out of the way, you wanna come out swinging. It was a really nice walk, since it was a beautiful day out, that and we had like 7 people talking to each other, so it went smoothly and time went by really fast. There were water bottle stops too, so if you got thirsty, you could rehydrate. I really enjoyed it, and when were done, we stopped and got some free Italian Ice, and we talked for a while. Leah was taking a bunch of pictures, and most of them included me, so I wonder how they're gonna explain that. I think I might just join Key Club from this, they obviously have fun doing things like this, and it's beneficial, cause it looks good on transcripts and stuff.
When it was time for lunch after the walk, they had Outback Steakhouse catering, so it was free Hamburgers, Chicken Sandwiches, and French Fries. So we found a shady spot and went to eat. Funny though, since it was like 11 in the morning, but I guess it's not that different from school. We sorta took off after that, and went our seperate ways. I headed towards Maryland Parkway, which is where the bus stop home was, and I passed by UNLV's library, the big silver shiny building I was "ooohing" over as we had been walking by it. I had to go look in, and damn, I was impressed, it's so pretty in there, but you have to be a student attending College to check anything out, so I kinda left sour. I walked to the Boulevard Mall instead, to go to Barnes & Noble and get my fix. I was gonna buy the Lemony Snicket Autobiography, cause it's actually supposed to be more of a story with ASOUE, then a real bio. I also went to Toys R' Us beforehand, and I guess you can have birthdays there, cause there was this giant Giraffe mascot in there hugging this girl as they were singing the birthday song, and then they had this giant parade march around the store. I went over to the Video Games section, and played the Zatch Bell fighting game for like 30 minutes, I wanna buy that game.
Barnes & Noble didn't have the book, so I settled on reading the new Shojo Beat, and Bleach #8, I kinda like Shojo Beat, that Absolute Boyfriend is another Watase Yuu classic, damn her stories are funny. Shojo Beat's a bit too girly though, it's like creepy girly. The mall was nice too, got to look around for a while. HOT TOPIC HAD NARUTO SHIRTS!! They had this one that had the leaf symbol on it, but it was too small. I about cried to death in there about that, I wanted to show everyone at school on Monday. I got over it though.
Hmm..I went home after that, and just relaxed. We went to T.G.I. Fridays, and then there was this circus at the Thomas and Mack. It was really cool, they had this thing where before the show started, kids could ride the elephants or go on this giant inflatable slide. I found out later from this couple in front of us that the elephant ride was $6 for two go-arounds. Screw that. I kinda felt bad for them too, they have these heavy a** giant metal harnesses on their backs, and they have to carry around stupid kids. My heart went out to them.
The first attraction was this lion and tiger tamer, that had them do these tricks like standing on pillars. The best part was when one of the lady lions was acting up, everyone was worried there would be a problem, but it was just an act. The lion actually acted like it was being lazy and deliberately laid on the floor and wouldn't move, so the guy actually dragged her by her leg onto the platform. It was pretty funny, and I must say it's gotta take a lot of work for a lion to let you do that to her. He had treats for them though, so maybe that was it.
The next event was these people riding motorcycles on a tight rope. That was so scary and cool, I could never do something like that. There was the guy riding on it on the top, and the bike holds this bar that the lady holds on and swings with. The scaries part was when they spun around like sideways so they were like changing sides, and they were still holding on even though they were upside down.
The next big was a clown performance, he was so funny, he used volunteers from the crowd. The first guy the clown picked didn't wanna go up, and the crowd was all like "C'mon!!", the guy was being a poor sport. The next lady had these horses and camels perform, and that was nice too, but not that cool. It was nice when she made the camels walk to her on their knees, like they were poor guys begging for the girl.
Then they had 3 of the arenas at the same time. One was a lady who did some nice tricks with hoops, the center was two rollerbladers on a little circle platform, and the last one was a juggler. I felt bad for him, cause he just wasn't as interesting as the other two. The hoop lady stole the show at the end, cause she had like 50 hoops on her, and when she pulled them off, she looked like a human Slinky. We had to go after that, Sophia was getting too fussy, but she had been real nice earlier, yelling out at the top of her lungs, and it wasn't crying either, it was just real high pitched excited squeals. Everyone thought that was so cute.
Note To Self: I'm gonna remember never to type a journal entry on Notepad and then try to copy/paste it here. I've now spent like 10 minutes having to reformat this entire entry, cause lines end early. sweatdrop
