A Fairy Tale
Among ancient fore, there was a magical world know as Dazinneon, where peace and harmony were its rulers. This is the story of its darkest hour. Even the mightiest of kingdom could not stand against the chaos the darkness brought upon them. Their greatest armies fell to the creatures spawned by the growing black clouds of evil. Seeking wisdom, the lords of the remaining kingdoms gathered to council with the most powerful wizard of Dazinneon-- Sir Lynch of Jois. "There must be some answer to this puzzle, some cure to this plague that has beseeched our lands. Please, Sir Lynch, you are our last hope!" exclaimed the Merchant King, L'Gargent. "Surely you possess such knowledge, Sir Lynch." grumbled Lodar, Chieftain of the Northern Barbarians. "Yes, I have foreseen these tragedies in my visions." replied Lynch in a troubled tone.
"In the heart of the darkness lies a palace, with walls build from the very agony and despair created by these dark skies of doom. Hordes of destruction overflow from its crevices, and yet their viciousness lacks in comparison to their creator, the wicked sorceress Jvanna. Only until now, has she achieved such power. I can sense her magical energy feasting upon the very heart of Dazinneon. Jvanna's rein brings a promise of endless night, if she is not to be conquered. None of Dazinneon's kindred can endure such revelations." Lynch continued.
"There is one hope--an ancient prophecy of five heroes, destined to find the magical river of Plin. The rivers power, as much a mystery as its location, lies deep within the soil of Dazinneon. Only the heroes may find the path which will lead them to the guardian of the river, where they will gather the strength to confront Jvanna and fulfill the prophecy." "How will we find these warriors?" cries old King Asmond. "Destiny will be our messenger and fate our guide... soon all will become clear." replied Lynch assuredly.
Meanwhile, in a small marketplace, our adventure begins. "Jahmar's elixir, guaranteed to cure you of your ails. Let this nectar be your savior for a 2 Quen." the merchant squawked. This was the perfect cover for Roxy to borrow a few 'unneeded' items from the vendors tables. Only Ordain, the blacksmith, had been witness to Roxy's actions. "Busy day shopping I see." "Ordian! Uh, yeah.. you know me, busy, busy, busy! Well, uh, lots to do so I'll be going--" "Not so fast, Roxy, I've got that job you've been asking for." "Asking for?!" "That's right! And I know you're not one to pass up good opportunities." Ordian's grin widened to a blatant smile.
"Mornin' Caitlin" "Mornin' uncle Ordian. Hey, Roxy." Caitlin replied. "Yeah, yeah, howdy." said a very disgruntled Roxy. "Since you're so good with your hands, I believe shoveling a few of the horse stalls might be right up your alley." Ordian said, still wearing the smile. Ordian was known for employ street urchins from time to time at the Iron Mule, giving them a trade and some discipline as well. Roxy, needless to say, knew the trade inside and out. But before she could perform her new 'doodies' at hand, the town alarms rang aloud.
"Monsters are invad'in da town." Pouring into the streets, the Hordes Minions quickly overwhelmed the battle-weary soldiers and unprepared townsfolk. They stood not a chance against the onslaught. Fighting desperately, Ordian knew he could only hold off the creatures momentarily. "Run girls, save yourselves!" "But uncle!" Caitlin cried. "Do it. Before it's too late!" As Caitlin and Roxy made their escape, Ordian was consumed by the darkness.
And so they ran. Ran until the skies were no longer lit by the fires that ravaged their once tranquil village. But escaping the danger would prove to be much more difficult. Soon, Mikala and Crinous, the twin moons of Dazinneon, hovered in the open sky. The night jargon of the forest could not quiet the deafening silence between the girls. Bother were lost in thought. They could only guess what fates the future might hold for them.
Ripping through the trees the Hobgoblin barred toward Caitlin and Roxy, catching them both by surprise. They could not react quickly enough to the beasts advances. Looming over his prey, bearing a mouthful of razor sharp teeth, the monster cried "I gunna feed on der bones!" Its words tussling though the giant fangs. Would this be their end?
"Freeze, demon dog, or I'll give you a new meaning to the word pain!" said the female elf. Without a moment to ponder, the Hobgoblin turned and disappeared into the forest. "The sprites told me you'd be here. I am Rainmaker, guardian of these woods." said the mysterious creature. Caitlin and Roxy were still in shock but the elf's placid words soothed them. Destiny was calling.
Led by Rainmaker, they found their way to her, the most ancient of trees. Standing before them, Rainmaker spoke softly. "Listen to her words and you will know your calling." A small breeze filled the air surrounding the two girls and the leaves began to whisper their tale. "Five heroes will be chosen to restore the balance of light and dark. Unite in the end with power from the heart, taming the creature of Plin with the light, and driving the darkness from the skies. Seek the temple of Vashkar. There you will find the river and the others who wait. Let fate be your guide and receive the gifts of the forest." The winds faded and the night grew still once more.
A bright golden glow illuminated the interior of the of the cavern. They stood silently basking in the awesome sight of its immeasurable wealth and power. Finding the proper equipment to aid their quest would be a task of its own. In her search, Caitlin became drawn to the Arms of Athena and, once donned, she could feel her strength grown within. Roxy, on the other hand, took longer to choose. "We're loaded." Roxy exclaimed. Eventually she found the Medallion of Gorlez, which gave her powers of Levitation, complimented by a Dagger of Quickness. Now, prepared for the battle ahead, they set out on their quest.
Though the temple of Vashkar had long been abandoned, it was rumored that an evil giant had taken up residence and all unwelcomed visitors meet their untimely demise when caught trespassing. Our heroines took no chances. To maintain the element of surprise, climbing the back cliffs seemed like the best approach. "You know, you don't have to squeeze so hard Rainmaker." Caitlin said. "Well, I have to grab onto something don't I?!" Rainmaker replied.
The howl of a Dwarvin war cry could be heard for miles. And it was apparent that magic had been the cast by the thick scent of burnt sulfur. As the three female warriors reached the scene, a monstrous groan, followed by an earthshaking thud, could be felt. "Could these be the other heroes we were told of?" Rainmaker asked. "Well, Delgrungo, it appears out fellow adventures have finally arrived. Luckily Sir Lynch pointed us in the right direction." said the tall, richly dressed blond. "Yeah, but dey missed all da action, Burnaught, dude." The dwarf replied, standing over their fallen foe. Lynch's apprentice, Burnaught, and the Dwarvin Berserker, had been chosen by the council to find the heroes of the prophecy.
It was now decided that Delgrungo and Burnaught's search for the five heroes was over--with themselves being the final components of the prophecy. The group then found their way to an entrance leading down into the earth, only to open up to a maze of tunnels and caverns. "Which way do we go now?" Roxy inquired. "Maybe we should split up." Suggested Burnaught. "Got it covered ya'll, just stick close." Delgrungo said as he pushed by the others. They agreed that Delgrungo's nose could be trusted when it came to underground navigation.
The caverns and passageways seemed to go on forever. Suddenly, burrowing through the stone walls, hairy, pigmy-sized creatures surrounded the heroes. "Lord of light!" screamed Rainmaker. "Great, we're going to be eaten alive by overgrown rats." Roxy said. "Wait, they kill giants who hunts us!" chirped what appeared to be their leader. The medallion around the creatures neck began to glow brightly and Roxy's own medallion mimicked that of the beast. The pattern of flashing lights emanating from both charms now pulsed in unison until suddenly the two grew dark. "You are the chosen ones!" exalted the creature. "Me Shile of Plin, you seek the river, no?!" "Yeah, yeah, that's us! River of Plin, right!" said an enthusiastic Roxy.
"There--that where her power grow."
