An Unexpected Meet (Ch.5)
Chapter 5- An Unexpected Meet

I sighed as Maya woke up early again today. I didn't think she really enjoyed it; I mean come on. Who like waking up before the sun is even up in the sky? I grabbed my blue stuffed bunny that mom gave me when I was seven, and pulled it closer to me as I got myself out of bed. It was one of the only memories I had of mom. She was probably going to knit something again.

"Can I help you?" Maya asked me impatiently. I innerly rolled my eyes.

"Where you off to?" I asked her, giving a little yawn

she rolled her eyes at me.

"The field, I have some knitting to do... why don't you go practice some more magic?" she asked.

"Uhg, you always want to do things by yourself." I grumbled and walked back to our room.

"Go practice magic here; Go practice magic there" I mumbled to myself.

She's always avoided me a bit more, since we've left mom. I sighed and changed out of my pajamas, and put on my normal outfit, that I usually wore, and placed the bunny on my pillow.

"Fine.. I'll go practice shifting!" I spoke to myself, giving a yawn

I decided to go to my favorite place in the forest. It was a little quiet grassy area, with trees surrounding it, making a circle, as if they weren't allowed to grow there. I sat on my knees in the middle of it, and concentrated on my surroundings. I closed my eyes, and listened to all the animals that inhabited the area, and I shifted into a large blue butterfly, of the Lycaenidae butterfly family. I innerly smiled, and flew off in a north-west direction. I always enjoyed transforming into extinct species of animals.

I flew around the trees, weaving in and out, as I felt the sunlight beam though branches of the trees. I came across a field, and sat on a long piece of grass that was blowing slightly in the wind. I shifted back to my regular self, and smiled. It was moments like these, that always took my breath away. I could feel butterflies fluttering around me, some leaving trails of dust. I smiled as I dazed off in the sun.
After what felt like ten minutes, I heard a few ruffles from behind me, from a tree, and I immediately sat up, spun to face the tree, and glared into the direction. I hated it when people ruined my perfect moments. A teenage boy walked out of a shadow, and I looked at what he was wearing. A cloak. My memory immediately went back to the day that those men caught us, four years ago, but I shook it out of my mind. Ridiculous.

"Get a hold of yourself! I don't even know him yet!"
I thought, and innerly slapped myself.

He just stared at me with wide eyes. People these days. I sighed

"What?!" I snapped at him, glaring at him.

"Your a human?!" he stared at me in shock, and walked closer to me

"Yes, thanks for noticing" I stood up and started making my way back to the way I came. I didn't want him to know about Maya, or my life.

"I swear I just saw you as a butterfly!" he frowned at me

I spun on the spot to face him again.

"Who knows? Maybe your going insane." I turned back, and started walking back to the hut. I wanted to laugh at my own comment

"Look, just because I'm probably the first human you've seen in years, doesn't mean you have to be rude." he stated, and smirked at me. I sighed. God, whats a girl got to do to get back to her own home? I walked up to him, and he placed his hand out at me

"My name's Lin. Its nice to meet you."

"I'm Candace, my pleasure." I said as I took his hand, and shook it hesitatingly.

He lifted my chin up with his first finger, giving my a better view of his face, and my eyes widened. I felt the blood rush instantly to my face. He was kinda... cute.

"Oh my God. Get a hold of yourself Candace!!" I cried to myself.

"Your kinda cute." he said calmly, giving a laugh when I felt my face turn red. He let go of my face and took a step back.

"Are you.. blind?" he asked, as if he was trying not to hit a sensitive spot

"No.. Well.. err.. Only color blind... half, lets just say" I stated, trying to find my words, looking at the ground.

"What color were they before?" he asked curiously

"Green. What color are your eyes?" I asked back, looking at him, as if I could actually figure it out myself.

"Brown" he replied, and smiled.

"Why is your hair blue?" he asked, somewhat politely.

"Why do you wear a cloak?" I asked, touching my right curl

"I don't want to, but my dad makes me wear it. Plus it's easier to sneak out of my home with it, anyway. I answered your question, now you answer my question" he grinned at me.

"Genetics." I smiled back and gave a small laugh.

He opened his mouth again, as if to ask another question, but I lifted my head and I looked up at the sky. I couldn't see the sun anywhere. I frowned slightly. I had to run.

"I have to go.. I'm sorry. It was nice meeting you Lin!" I called, as I was already running back to the hut, my face still hot.

I didn't wait for his reply, although I think he was going to ask me more questions. We have to be back home before sundown because when everything is black we really do become blind, and we don't want to be killed by the animals that live in this forest.
Seems as though Maya was trying to get back early as well, because we almost bumped into each other.

"What were you up to?" she asked me, and I felt the blood coming back to my face

"Oh... nothing." I replied, quietly laughing at the irony.

".... same here." she replied, her face going a few shades darker, meaning she was blushing too.

And with that we went in to eat. I didn't tell her anything about Lin... but for some odd reason I really wanted to see him again... or at least hear his voice again.
